Senior Mechanical Engineer

Owing to an impending retirement we are looking for an experienced mechanical engineer to shadow and eventually succeed our current senior mechanical engineer. Candidates should have at least 10 years previous exposure to high temperature industrial process plant and materials handling, including high temperature refractory design and installation.Reporting to the managing director you will be able to work on your own initiative (after familiarisation with our technologies) and eventually take responsibility for the mechanical engineering function within the group. Mechanical engineering within Torftech involves work ranging from mechanical aspects of conceptual process design, to drawing and design prior to manufacture to installation and commissioning, and maintenance of existing plant.Intellectual rigour, technical knowledge, good communication skills and ability to manage and collaborate are key prerequisites for this hands-on role which will encompass:

(i) CAD drawing using Inventor both at the conceptual design stage and prior to manufacture,

(ii) Review of fabricators’ manufacturing drawings to ensure effective quality control and accurate manufacture,

(iii) Diagnosis of faults and rectification,

(iv) Implementation of maintenance and spares supplies,

(v) Conduct of tests on the group’s pilot plants,

(vi) Manage a growing mechanical engineering function,

(vii) Liaison with suppliers to ensure bought in components and fabrications function as required,

(viii) Support the ordering process as required.

Required Qualifications and Skills

Good degree in Engineering or a related discipline

Prior practical experience in mechanical or process engineering, especially in thermal processes and materials handling.

General interest in the area of gas/solid processing.

Familiarity with the Microsoft Office suite of programmes.

Ability to work remotely.

All necessary UK residence and work permits.
