UK Atomic Energy Authority is seeking a computational scientist to develop performance-portable simulations based on NESO-Particles for fusion research. The role combines HPC, parallel and GPU programming with plasma modelling concepts, and requires collaboration with plasma physics and other domains.

The successful candidate will deploy software on state-of-the-art systems such as SUNRISE, contribute to technical reports and papers, and mentor junior team members as needed.

Qualifications

• Degree in a scientific, engineering or technical subject; PhD or equivalent research experience.
• Demonstrable experience in at least one modern programming language relevant to plasma modelling (C++, Fortran, Python, Julia).
• Familiarity with modern software engineering practices and writing maintainable code.

Responsabilités

• Develop novel software and methods for performance-portable simulations using NESO-Particles.
• Apply HPC techniques and parallel/GPU programming to Tokamak plasma modelling.
• Ensure software is well-tested, documented and versioned for research use.
• Collaborate with domain scientists across divisions to deploy computational models.
• Mentor junior colleagues when appropriate.
