Job summary

UK Atomic Energy Authority is seeking an Advanced Specialist HPC Computational Engineer to lead modelling, simulation and uncertainty quantification across fusion research programmes. You will develop novel numerical methods and maintain advanced scientific software, shaping next-gen HPC technologies.

You will drive deployment of new architectures, contribute to digital twin capabilities, publish research findings, and collaborate on multi‑partner international projects with a strong leadership

Qualifications

• PhD or equivalent with strong publication record or software contributions.
• Experience leading technical projects or teams in research/engineering.
• Strong numerical analysis and mathematical foundation.

Responsibilities

• Lead modelling, simulation and uncertainty quantification across fusion research programmes.
• Develop and evaluate novel numerical methods and algorithms for scientific applications.
• Lead design, development, testing and maintenance of advanced scientific software.
• Drive deployment and assessment of emerging computing architectures and accelerators.
• Design and support digital twin capabilities for current and future fusion systems.
• Publish research findings in peer-reviewed journals and present at conferences.
• Contribute to research funding proposals and identify new opportunities.
• Build and support international collaborations across multi-partner projects.
• Oversee technical delivery of small project teams to meet milestones.
