Job description

This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced Events Manager to take the lead on a varied and ambitious events programme within one of the UK’s most significant heritage destinations.

From cultural and fundraising events to large-scale commercial activity, private hire and filming, you’ll be involved in creating memorable experiences while helping to grow audiences, generate income and support the long-term success of the organisation.

The Opportunity

This is a hands-on role with plenty of variety. You’ll lead the planning, programming and operational delivery of events across an impressive and unique site, working with colleagues, suppliers, partners and external event operators.

You’ll have the opportunity to shape the events programme, develop new ideas and identify opportunities to increase income and engagement, while making sure every event is well planned, commercially considered and delivered to a high standard.

What You’ll Be Doing

You’ll manage events from initial planning through to delivery and evaluation, coordinating everything from suppliers, contractors and event partners to casual staff and volunteers.

Alongside delivering cultural, fundraising and private hire events, you’ll support filming and location hire and oversee third-party operators delivering larger-scale events.

There is also a strong commercial element to the role. You’ll manage event budgets and P&Ls, monitor income and expenditure and analyse attendance, audience feedback and financial performance to help shape future events.

Working closely with Fundraising, Marketing, Visitor Experience, Operations and the Senior Leadership Team, you’ll build strong relationships across the organisation as well as with sponsors, suppliers, artists, contractors and community partners.

You’ll also take the lead on operational planning and event safety, including risk assessments, licensing requirements and ensuring best practice around health and safety and emerging requirements such as Martyn’s Law.

What You’ll Bring

You’ll be an experienced events professional who enjoys the combination of planning, commercial thinking and being there on the day to make sure everything comes together.

You’ll have experience delivering a range of events, from smaller activities through to large-scale events with several thousand guests, together with strong project management and organisational skills.

You’ll be comfortable managing budgets and event P&Ls, working with suppliers and contractors and balancing multiple priorities. Just as importantly, you’ll be a confident communicator who can build strong relationships and remain calm and solutions-focused when plans inevitably change.

Experience within heritage, culture, charities or visitor attractions would be useful, although it isn’t essential.

What’s In It For You?

This is an opportunity to take on a genuinely varied events role where you can influence the programme rather than simply deliver it.

You’ll work across commercial, cultural and fundraising events within an organisation with an exciting future, contributing ideas, developing new opportunities and playing an important part in creating experiences that bring people back time and again.

Due to the nature of events, some evening, weekend and Bank Holiday working will be required, with time off in lieu provided
