Monzo is seeking an Engineering Director to lead a distributed team across the UK, Spain and remote locations. You will partner with product, design, data and operations to define and execute the European engineering strategy while aligning with regulatory and market expansion goals.

This role emphasizes influencing without direct authority, building leadership capability, and shaping the organisation’s structure to scale Europe.

• Experience leading large engineering organisations through other leaders.
• Ability to influence without direct authority across multiple teams.
• Proven track record scaling organisations during growth or expansion.
• Strong capability to navigate ambiguity and deliver tangible outcomes.
• Experience partnering with product, design, data, operations and risk/compliance.

Responsibilities

• Lead a distributed engineering organisation spanning the UK, Spain and remote locations.
• Build and develop Engineering Managers and senior technical leaders.
• Partner with Product, Design, Data, Research, Operations, Risk and Compliance to define and execute strategy.
• Drive alignment and execution across collectives to enable Europe-focused product development.
• Shape organisational structure, operating models and planning for scalable growth.
• Identify and validate product-market fit in new markets while balancing short-term delivery and long-term investments.
