ABOUT THE ROLE

Are you an Ethics & Sustainability expert? Would you like to work for one of the UK’s iconic retail brands? We have an exciting opportunity to join our Ethics & Sustainability team.

As an Ethics & Sustainability Officer, Performance and Engagement, you will support the delivery of the Waitrose strategy for Ethics & Sustainability (E&S), aligning with the wider business strategy and Purpose.

This role involves delivering E&S projects, developing policies, horizon scanning, creating guidance for teams, managing data, and supporting reporting and assurance processes to position the Partnership as a market leader in E&S. You will also handle events management and general administration to support the E&S team’s goals.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Supporting various areas within the E&S team to achieve specific outcomes and assist during peak workloads.
  • Scoping, managing, and supporting project delivery.
  • Collecting, analyzing, and reporting data; developing reports and recommendations.
  • Engaging with Head Office Partners, suppliers, and branches to improve compliance and engagement.
  • Recommending ways to embed initiatives into ‘business as usual’ practices.
  • Creating internal and external communication materials, including presentations, guidance packs, website content, letters, and meeting papers. Supporting stakeholder events to meet Partnership standards.
  • Conducting research for horizon scanning, strategy development, and policy creation.
  • Providing administrative support for projects and meetings.

Essential Skills:

  • Experience implementing ethics and sustainability initiatives in a business setting.
  • Ability to handle complex work efficiently and independently, with a goal-oriented approach.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills, with the ability to quickly process and organize information, and adapt to ambiguity.
  • Good stakeholder relationship-building skills and team collaboration.
  • Proficiency in IT, GSuite, and data analysis.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Passion for sustainability.

Desirable Skills:

  • Experience across multiple E&S areas such as Environment, Responsible Sourcing, Social Impact, or Health, preferably in retail, food, or FMCG sectors.
  • Development of Ethics & Sustainability policies.
  • Sustainability-related qualifications.

Salary: £36,500 - £55,000 per year

Contract: Permanent

Hours: 35 hours/week, Monday to Friday, 09:00-17:30
