Job summary

East Midlands Railway is implementing the European Train Control System (ETCS) across its network. The ETCS Competency & Standards Development Manager will become the subject-matter expert, shaping operational procedures, training and CMS alignment to ensure safe ETCS deployment.

The role involves collaboration with Network Rail, TOCs and industry bodies, developing simulator plans and competency materials, and driving readiness across frontline teams.

Qualifications

• Driver competency and ETCS/ERTMS knowledge are essential.
• Must hold a valid European Train Driving Licence.
• At least 4 years of mainline driving experience is required.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with the ETCS Programme Manager to understand priorities and expectations.
• Provide specialist operational input into ETCS design, rules and layout to meet safety needs.
• Plan and deliver EMR readiness for ETCS rollout with risk mitigation.
• Update standards, rulebooks and procedures to reflect ETCS compliance.
• Lead training and competency programmes for drivers to operate ETCS/ERTMS.
• Develop simulators and scenarios for competency development and CMS alignment.
• Support assurance processes for ETCS compliance with railway safety standards.
