Job summary

Abatec Recruitment is seeking an Estimator to join a Civil Engineering contractor delivering major infrastructure across South Wales. You will lead and support tendering, prepare detailed estimates from drawings, and produce Bills of Quantities, with strong earthworks measurement experience highly valued.

Salary band: £55,000 - £70,000 per annum, along with a benefits package including car allowance, private medical insurance, 25 days annual leave, life assurance and a company pension.

Qualifications

• Experience in leading or supporting tenders from enquiry to submission.
• Ability to produce accurate quantities and measurements from drawings.
• Familiarity with BoQ and measurement software.
• Strong awareness of risks, buildability, and value engineering opportunities.

Responsibilities

• Lead and/or support the tendering process from enquiry to submission and handover.
• Prepare estimates and quantities from drawings, specs and tender docs.
• Produce Bills of Quantities and measurements using estimating software.
• Measure works from 2D/3D drawings with earthworks experience valuable.
• Review tenders for risks, opportunities, and VE ideas.
• Engage with subcontractors/suppliers for quotes and compliance.
• Attend tender reviews and client meetings as required.
• Stay updated on market rates and best practices.

Job description

Abatec is seeking an Estimator to join a well-established Civil Engineering contractor delivering major infrastructure across South Wales. Due to continued growth and a strong pipeline of work, out client is seeking experienced Estimating professionals to join their pre-construction team and play a key role in securing and delivering a diverse range of civil engineering projects.

With projects ranging from £10k to £50m, this opportunity offers the chance to work across a broad & diverse range of civil engineering & infrastructure schemes; highways, water, utilities, & earthworks.

As Estimator, you will:

• Lead and/or support the tendering process from initial enquiry through to final submission and handover.
• Prepare detailed estimates and undertake accurate quantity take-offs (QTO) from drawings, specifications and tender documentation.
• Produce Bills of Quantities and detailed measurements using relevant estimating/measurement software.
• Measure works from 2D and 3D drawings, with strong earthworks measurement experience particularly valuable.
• Review tender documentation, identifying risks, opportunities, queries and potential value-engineering solutions.
• Obtain, analyse and evaluate subcontractor and supplier quotations, ensuring technical and commercial compliance.
• Attend tender reviews, client meetings and negotiations where required.
• Maintain awareness of current market conditions, construction rates, methodology and industry best practice.

Our client requires an Estimator with:

• HNC/HND, degree or equivalent qualification in Civil Engineering, Quantity Surveying, Construction or a related discipline is desirable
• Previous experience in a similar position within Civil Engineering / Construction industry.
• Strong commercial awareness with an understanding of risk, buildability and project methodology.
• Experience with Causeway or comparable estimating/measurement software would be beneficial.
• Ability to produce accurate quantities and measurements and communicate these clearly to estimators, commercial teams and the wider business.
• Experience undertaking quantity take-offs from drawings (desirable)

Salary band: £55,000 - £70,000 per annum & depending on experience
