Overview

Purpose of the Job: The Estimator will play a crucial role in evaluating project costs, preparing accurate estimates, and ensuring that projects remain within budget. This position requires a strong understanding of cost control measures and the ability to analyse various factors that influence project expenses.

Responsibilities
  • Create all small works estimates within the KSD Support Services Ltd business (across all clients).
  • Collect client feedback and attend site meetings as and when required.
  • Liaising with KSD Support Services Ltd Helpdesk on a daily basis.
  • Communicate with trade partners and team members regarding new and current projects and small works.
  • Understand scope of work to bid.
  • Establish and maintain working relationships with vendors and subcontractors.
  • Analyse drawings and specifications.
  • Provide clear detailed quantity take offs.
  • Aim to reach targets set by the Senior Estimator for estimates submitted, either volume or value based.
  • Calculating the cost of materials, transport, labour, and equipment hire.
  • Researching and assessing information from a variety of sources in order to prepare accurate estimates.
  • Assessing the levels of risk on projects.
  • Support, coach and advise junior members of the team.
Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities

Essential

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficient in the use of IT platforms, Outlook, Word, Excel.
  • The ability to work well as part of a team to achieve both personal and team targets.
  • Have a positive ‘can do’ attitude.
  • Flexibility and adaptability to changing workloads.
  • Experience of working within a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong organisation skills and a high attention to detail.
  • Highly proficient in numeracy.

Desirable

  • NVQ Level 3, HNC, HND or degree in construction management, quantity surveying, building surveying, structural engineering or civil engineering.
  • Member of the RICS or CIOB.
  • Knowledge of schedule of rates desirable.
  • Awareness of Health and Safety procedures and regulations.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings.
  • CSCS Card.
