Morgan Hunt is currently seeking Estates Caretaker for a FE College based in Kent
Pay Rate: £17ph to 18ph Ltd
Hours: 42.5 hrs – Mon to Fri – 6am to 7pm
Location: Kent
Duration: 3 months ongoing contract
Requirements: Enhanced DBS check; Full Clean Driving Licence; Company vehicle provided covering two college sites.
Summary
A member of the Estates Team, the role supports the work of the Team in providing a safe, supportive, welcoming environment which promotes effective teaching and learning and complies with legislative requirements, including the Care Standards. The post holder is expected to ensure their work is completed in a timely manner and recorded on the Estates Helpdesk.
Specific Responsibilities
- Routine checks of safety‑related equipment such as Fire Doors, Fire Extinguishers.
- Conduct termly Safety Tours of communal buildings and external areas.
- Perform routine planned basic maintenance checks, e.g. Fire Alarm and Emergency Lighting checks, utility meter readings.
- Day‑to‑day monitoring of buildings and facilities for general cleanliness and significant hazards or defects, carrying out corrective actions within scope of the role.
- Report defects or hazards to the Estates Manager (W) when immediate corrective action cannot be taken.
- Monitor the Estates Helpdesk, picking up, completing and signing off jobs assigned.
- Assist the Estates Technicians with keeping the Estate and facilities in good order.
- Portering duties including driving, furniture removal, events and exam set‑ups; preparation of meeting rooms and teaching spaces as required.
- Help with the safe transport of items between sites when required.
- Open and lock buildings; ensure safe access & egress to college sites and buildings.
- Cover shifts as required – early, day and late shifts as per the college rota.
- Participate in the College’s Emergency Arrangements, including out‑of‑hours call‑out.
- Improve the profile of Health & Safety within the College, making recommendations to the Estates Manager (W) for improvements.
- Supervise deliveries and receive goods.
- Undertake basic cleaning duties and collection of litter where necessary.
- Monthly valeting and driver‑level maintenance checks of college vehicles.
- Support other staff with managing adverse student behaviour where necessary for safety reasons.
- Attend and assist in the preparation of college events such as Miskin Theatre Shows, Lambing, Weekend and Open Days.
- Undertake any other reasonable duties as directed by management.
