ABOUT THE ROLE
We are seeking a dedicated and flexible individual to provide a high-quality support service to our college staff and student community. The role will play an important part in ensuring the efficient, effective and safe operation and maintenance of the College estate, including supporting our provision across off-site locations.
The role is primarily based during daytime hours, 8:00am to 4:00pm, Monday to Friday. There will, however, be a requirement to work flexibly on occasion to support open evenings, events and other activities outside of these core hours.
The postholder will work across the main Wellington Campus and Telford 6th site, as well as other buildings where the College has an operational presence, depending on business needs. The role will also form part of the College's out-of-hours call-out rota, providing additional support when required.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Respond to customer requests via the Estates service desk, or as notified by the Director of Estates or Estates Manager, in a professional, positive and timely manner, providing high quality customer service to all staff and students at all times.
- Maintain the security of the premises and its content by supporting other Estates Assistants with locking duties. Following the completion of a successful probationary period, assume the role of a key holder for the Campus on a call out basis only at this point in time, although there may be a future need for this position to work on a shift basis, in which case shift allowances will then apply. Generally, the requirement will be for the successful candidate to be on call at least one week out of every six. Responsibilities will include responding to any emergencies or alarm activations (accompanied by on-site security staff) outside of normal operational hours, including weekends.
- Operating fire and intruder alarm systems, and carrying out weekly fire alarm checks, and periodic checks of other statutory items - such as emergency lighting systems and legionella flushing regimes. Supporting with fire and lockdown drills on a termly and annual basis respectively.
- Checking and monitoring the daily operation of building plant equipment - heating, water services, air conditioning and AHU systems, etc., reporting back any issues to the Building Services and Sustainability officer.
- Carrying out and recording inspections of the premises, reporting any required repairs or maintenance work or health and safety concerns accordingly.
- Carrying out porterage duties, including, but not limited to, taking delivery of goods and materials for distribution and storage, moving furniture and other large items around the Campus, or to waste compounds for disposal, setting up rooms, exams and events, and collapsing on need.
- Carry out handyperson duties, including general maintenance, minor repairs, decorating, and potentially contractor supervision when required.
- Undertake, when required, grounds maintenance, such as grass cutting, strimming, weeding, hedge/tree trimming and pruning, emptying bins and supporting cleaning assistants with delivery of consumables to relevant areas.
- Meet with contractors and instruct on works required, ensuring College procedures are adhered to.
- Draft and place orders for consumables/materials and other minor maintenance items through the Estates Manager and Estates Administrator.
