Job summary

The East Kent Colleges Group is looking for a proactive Estates Assistant to join our Canterbury campus. You will support caretaking, minor repairs and on-site services to keep facilities safe, welcoming and running smoothly.

Responsibilities include locking/unlocking buildings, setting alarms, conducting fire alarm checks, monitoring infrastructure, and assisting staff with a flexible shift pattern and safeguarding commitments. A genuine interest in sharing knowledge is valued.

  • Good organisational skills and the ability to keep things running smoothly.
  • Experience in monitoring, testing and accurate record keeping of Fire Alarm & Emergency Lighting systems.
  • Working knowledge of Legionella within a working environment.
  • Genuine interest in sharing knowledge and supporting the next generation.
  • Enthusiasm and a positive attitude; passion counts even if experience is helpful.

  • Acting as a responsible key holder, unlock or lock buildings, depending on work pattern, ensuring the site is safe and secure, take part in the on-call rota to keep the campus running smoothly.
  • Be responsible for the setting and un-setting of the intruder alarm as well as undertake regular fire alarm and emergency lights checks throughout the building.
  • Undertake timely checking of core infrastructure and equipment.
  • Support a wide range of caretaking and general Estates duties, minor repairs and maintenance, delivery and portering duties, and supporting staff on site.
