Job summary

East Kent Colleges Group is seeking an Inclusive Learning Tutor to assess and support students facing learning difficulties. The role provides 1:1 support, plans targeted tasks, and ensures these programmes align with designated study programmes and courses.

You will lead a team of learning support staff, supervise activities, and contribute to staff training. Experience with learners with special needs is advantageous, and training is provided where needed.

Qualifications

  • Passion for overcoming barriers to learning.
  • Highly organised, creative, and able to plan and teach engaging sessions.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to engage reluctant learners.
  • Experience in assessing and tracking student progress and planning intervention.
  • Able to teach Level 2 to Level 3 designated study programmes and/or ad hoc sessions.
  • Proven people management skills to supervise and develop a team of learning support staff.
  • Experience of working with individuals with learning needs and/or care needs is advantageous.
  • Ideally you will have teaching experience or delivered 1:1 support/training; training will be provided.

Responsibilities

  • Support EHCP consultation process and annual reviews for students.
  • Support students at Level 2 and Level 3 and track progress toward goals.

About The Role

As an Inclusive LearningTutor in the EKC group you will assess and work with students from a variety of learning environments who are experiencing difficulties with learning. Your role will include providing 1:1 support to learners to enable them to achieve their maximum potential, and planning focused tasks which complement designated study programmes and/or courses.

You will have key responsibility for ensuring the design, delivery and evaluation of these support programmes. You will also have responsibility for the management of a team of learning support staff, including day-to-day supervision, monthly support meetings and management of the probation process. You may also be involved in the delivery of in-service staff training.

Your involvement with students will include participating in the consultation process for students with EHCPs hoping to attend a college in the EKC Group. You will support any students working at level 2 and 3 to ensure a high quality learning experience. You will also conduct annual reviews for students with EHCPs to consider their achievements, support needs and next destinations.

Hours per week: 22.5

Salary per year: £21,468

About You

You will have a passion for overcoming barriers to learning. You will be highly organised, creative and be able to plan and teach engaging and innovative sessions. You will have strong demonstrable interpersonal skills to engage reluctant learners. They will be skilled in assessing and tracking student progress and planning further intervention. This will be a vital part of the role, ensuring all students develop the skills they need to succeed.

You will be able to teach a range of designated study programs and/or ad hoc sessions from Level 2 up to Level 3, and will be able to motivate learners to achieve and succeed on their programmes of study.

You will also have proven people management skills to supervise and develop a team of learning support staff. Experience in working with individuals with learning needs and/or care needs would also be an advantage.

Ideally you will have experience of teaching or have delivered 1:1 support or training in the workplace, although this is not essential as training will be offered to the successful applicant. You must have a positive outlook and be empathetic towards learners.
