Job summary

The Ministry of Justice is seeking a proactive Estates Grounds Maintenance operative to manage day-to-day maintenance of the grounds and amenity areas within the Downview estate. The role is non-operational with no line management duties, but involves supervising prisoner work and ensuring safety and quality across outdoor spaces.

The position requires a Vocational Qualification Level 3 or willingness to work towards it, and entails unsocial hours with enhanced pay.

Qualifications

• Must have a Vocational Qualification Level 3 or be willing to work towards gaining this qualification within an agreed timescale.
• Experience in grounds maintenance including turf laying, lawn care and external area upkeep is desirable.

Responsibilities

• Carry out soft landscaping and hard landscaping tasks such as turf laying and patio works.
• Maintain grounds, lawns, ponds, water features and external areas including woodland.
• Supervise prisoner parties and quality control of their work.
• Undertake site inspections, stock checks and procurement requests for materials as needed.
• Ensure safe access and egress to the estate and operate plant equipment in line with safety policies.
