Job description

ESG Manager | Cambridge | up to £60,000 | Onsite

An innovative technology business is looking for an experienced ESG Manager to lead the development and delivery of its Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) strategy.

This is an excellent opportunity to take ownership of ESG reporting, sustainability initiatives and governance across an established international organisation supplying technology to a range of global markets, including public safety and government sectors.

Working cross-functionally with senior leadership and teams across Engineering, Product Development, Operations, Procurement and HR, you will translate customer and regulatory ESG requirements into practical business objectives, measurable improvements and long-term sustainability initiatives.

The Role

As ESG Manager, you will be responsible for driving the organisation’s ESG framework, ensuring robust reporting, effective governance and continuous improvement across environmental, social and corporate governance priorities.

You will work closely with stakeholders throughout the business to embed sustainability into decision‑making, business processes, product development and supply‑chain activities.

Key Responsibilities

ESG Strategy & Governance: Lead the development and implementation of the ESG strategy, maintain the ESG roadmap and coordinate governance meetings, tracking progress, risks, actions and business priorities.

Reporting & Compliance: Manage annual ESG reporting and disclosures, ensuring accurate, transparent and evidence‑based reporting aligned with relevant international standards and frameworks.

Carbon & Sustainability: Oversee Scope 1, 2 and 3 greenhouse gas emissions reporting, coordinate the Carbon Reduction Plan and identify opportunities to improve environmental performance.

Data & Performance: Manage ESG data collection, validation and analysis, maintaining robust methodologies, supporting evidence, controls and measurable KPIs.

Regulatory Monitoring: Track changes in ESG legislation, reporting standards, public‑sector procurement requirements and market expectations, advising senior management on their implications.

Customer & Tender Support: Lead ESG responses for customer requests, commercial tenders, stakeholder disclosures and external sustainability benchmarking exercises.

Materiality & Stakeholder Engagement: Conduct periodic materiality assessments and engage with internal and external stakeholders to ensure ESG priorities reflect business and stakeholder needs.

Product Sustainability: Collaborate with Engineering, Product Management and Operations to integrate sustainability into product design, materials, packaging, durability, repairability and lifecycle considerations.

Responsible Supply Chain: Work with Procurement and Supply Chain teams to strengthen responsible sourcing, supplier ESG requirements, conflict-minerals due diligence and supply‑chain reporting.

Social Value & Employee Engagement: Support community initiatives, charitable activities and employee engagement programmes, establishing appropriate objectives and measures.

Policies & Continuous Improvement: Maintain ESG policies, procedures and controls within business management systems, including alignment with ISO 14001 where applicable.

Internal Awareness: Develop ESG awareness across the organisation through training, guidance and communications, helping teams understand their responsibilities and contribute to agreed objectives.

About You

You will be comfortable working with complex data, engaging stakeholders at all levels and turning ESG requirements into clear, achievable business plans.

+Degree-level education, ideally in Finance, Business Management, a technical discipline or a related field.

+Strong knowledge of international environmental standards and ESG reporting frameworks, such as GRI, GHG Protocol, ESRS, ISSB, SASB and CDP.

+Proven experience developing and delivering ESG reports, metrics, disclosures and customer responses.

+Experience of ESG reporting within a global supply chain, ideally serving government, public‑sector or public safety customers.

+Strong project management skills, with the ability to coordinate initiatives and deliver objectives across multiple business functions.

Excellent analytical skills and attention to detail, particularly when collecting, validating and interpreting data.

Why Apply?

This is an opportunity to take ownership of a broad ESG remit within an established technology business, influencing sustainability strategy and working directly with senior stakeholders.

You will have the scope to shape reporting processes, drive meaningful environmental and social improvements, and embed responsible business practices across product development, operations and the supply chain.
