Job summary

Hutchison Ports (UK) in Felixstowe seeks an Equipment Technology Technician (Shift) to diagnose, repair and maintain electrical/electronic control and drive systems on container handling equipment. The role supports the port's NetZero targets and requires an HNC/HND in Electrical/Electronic Eng or equivalent.

The ideal candidate will have PLC programming knowledge and the ability to work across networks and safety standards, with a Full UK driving licence.

Job description

We’re recruiting an Equipment Technology Technician (Shift) to join our Engineering team.

Directly supporting the port's projects to deliver our NetZero targets, the ETT will be diagnosing, rectifying and repairing faults on electrical and electronic based control and drive systems.


The successful candidate will hold or be working towards an HNC in Electronic/Electrical Engineering (or equivalent).


They will also have in-depth knowledge of various PLC programming languages, control logic data communications, positions systems and the interface with all ancillary control equipment.


This is a shift based role averaging 42 hours a week over a rolling 7 day shift pattern.

Role Overview

Key responsibilities


  • Diagnose, repair and maintain electrical, electronic, automation and control systems on container handling equipment to ensure safe and reliable operation.

  • Deliver reactive maintenance, planned maintenance and project work efficiently while minimising disruption to port operations.

  • Support network communications, positioning systems and terminal operating system interfaces across port equipment.

  • Drive equipment reliability and performance improvements by reducing downtime, responding effectively to faults and contributing to continuous improvement initiatives.



  • Ensure compliance with safety procedures, engineering standards and management systems, while providing technical guidance and support to colleagues, apprentices and contractors


What you need


  • HNC/HND Electrical/Electronic Engineering

  • IOSH Managing Safely (or equivalent)

  • Full UK driving licence

  • Advanced fault-finding and diagnostic skills on complex engineering equipment

  • Ability to prioritise workloads and remain effective in a fast-paced operational environment.

  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to collaborate across stakeholders.


Shifts & Pay


  • Salary: Up to 71,929 inclusive of shift pay
