Time for Recruitment is recruiting for a Permanent Environmental & Sustainability Advisor for a well-established, award-winning main contractor in the UK. Our client specializes in large construction projects, including new builds and refurbishments of hotels, leisure, commercial, industrial, health, and education facilities.
As an Environmental & Sustainability Advisor, you will be part of the client's SHEQ (Health, Safety, Environment, and Quality) Department, providing group-wide services. You will monitor on-site activities across all UK sites to ensure compliance with environmental policies. This role can be based at their offices in London or Ireland, with travel between the two locations.
Main Responsibilities:
- Assist project teams in applying Environmental and Sustainability policies, including site-specific environmental plans and risk assessments (waste management, carbon footprint monitoring, pollution control, sustainable sourcing of materials, ecology, social value, and Considerate Constructors' Best Practice).
- Communicate current environmental legislation requirements and ISO 14001 standards.
- Guide Project Managers in drafting and developing site-specific Environmental and Waste Management Plans.
- Support the coordination of BREEAM and HQM evidence during construction and post-construction phases, ensuring proper evidence collection.
- Provide onsite engagement, support, and coaching on Environmental and Sustainability procedures.
- Collect and report on environmental and sustainability data, including carbon, waste, water, and social value metrics.
- Liaise with subcontractors on environmental issues during design, construction, commissioning, and handover.
- Conduct environmental and sustainability audits to ensure policy compliance and highlight non-conformances.
- Assist in developing environmental and sustainability initiatives.
- Deliver environmental and sustainability awareness training and toolbox talks.
- Promote environmental and sustainability principles to ensure compliance and best practices, such as the Considerate Constructors Scheme.
- Develop case studies and lessons learned across projects.
- Participate in site progress meetings and complete environmental investigation reports.
- Attend SHEQ meetings and training as required.
- Perform any other duties as assigned by management.
Education/Experience:
- A degree in Environmental or Sustainability discipline or equivalent relevant experience.
- Practitioner membership of IEMA or similar.
- Experience working in a busy, deadline-driven environment, handling multiple submissions simultaneously.
- Experience using databases, spreadsheets, and the internet for reporting.
- Ability to create professional, accurate documentation and tailored reports.
- High commitment, proactive attitude, and confidentiality.
- Flexibility regarding site locations within the UK and Ireland.
- Right to work in the UK or appropriate work permit.
Benefits:
- Competitive salary (£30,000 to £45,000, depending on experience).
