Job summary

Westmorland and Furness Council is seeking a professionally qualified Environmental Health Officer or Registered Environmental Health Practitioner to lead a dedicated Public Protection team in Kendal. You will oversee investigations and enforcement across Nuisance, Drainage, Pest Control, Air Quality, and more, with travel across the region.

You will bring robust managerial and analytical skills, possess effective communication, and head up delivery of statutory duties, ensuring high standards

Qualifications

  • Fully qualified Environmental Health Officer or Registered Environmental Health Practitioner with at least three years’ post-qualification experience.
  • Additional qualifications in Environmental Protection (equivalent to Diploma or above) would be an advantage.

Responsibilities

  • Lead, manage, supervise and develop the Public Protection team delivering investigations, inspections and enforcement.
  • Provide legal and technical advice on Statutory Nuisance, Drainage, Pest Control, Air Quality, Environmental Permitting, Contaminated Land, Private Water Supplies and Bathing Water Quality.

Westmorland and Furness Council is looking for a professionally qualified and skilled officer who is competent and confident to manage, supervise and support adedicated team in their increasingly busy and demanding day to day duties and to be responsible for the delivery of investigations, inspections and enforcement of Statutory Nuisance, Drainage, Pest Control, Air Quality, Environmental Permitting, Contaminated Land, Private Water Supplies and Bathing Water Quality issues as part of the Public Protection Team. You will possess robust and up to date knowledge in all of these areas, be able to demonstrate excellent people, performance and resource management skills.

Who we are looking for…

You will be a fully qualified Environmental Health Officer or Registered Environmental Health Practitioner with at least three years’ post qualification experience. As lead officer you will also be responsible for the provision of legal and technical advice to the council, companies and individuals on Statutory Nuisance, Drainage, Pest Control, Air Quality, Environmental Permitting, Contaminated Land, Private Water Supplies and Bathing Water Quality issues.

Additional qualifications in Environmental Protection (equivalent to Diploma or above) for example in Acoustics & Noise Control, Air Quality, Environmental Permitting, Private Water Supplies or Contaminated Land, would be an advantage.

You will be expected to manage a practical personal workload and assist in the supervision, management and development of the service. To be successful, you will be a self-motivated and enthusiastic team player, possessing excellent communication, organisational and analytical skills. This post is ideal for someone looking to progress their career with a new unitary authority.

As part of this role, there is a requirement for regular travel and so the postholder must be able to drive and have access to a vehicle to use for work/ able to independently travel around the Westmorland and Furness area.
