Job summary

Devon County Council is seeking an experienced Environmental Protection Officer to support the Environmental Protection team in managing a varied caseload and improving living environment standards across the county.

You will carry out site visits, investigate noise nuisance, assess air quality, contaminated land, and take appropriate enforcement actions, liaising with residents, businesses and stakeholders.

Qualifications

• Experience in Local Authority Private Sector Housing.
• Strong working knowledge of Noise Nuisance work.
• Experience with Waste accumulation work.
• Experience of taking appropriate enforcement action where necessary
• The ability to manage a varied caseload independently and work effectively to deadlines
• The ability to deal confidently with members of the public and businesses
• Full UK driving licence.

Responsibilities

• Carrying out site visits/ inspections and assess complaints
• Investigate Noise Nuisance from both residential and commercial residencies
• Assessing Air Quality
• Investigating Contaminated Land
• Taking informal and formal enforcement action where appropriate
• Investigate waste accumulation and associated environmental protection issues
• Maintaining accurate case records and preparing reports where required
• Liaise with residents, businesses, complainants, landowners and other stakeholders
• Manage a caseload effectively and ensure investigations are progressed within appropriate timescales
