Job summary

Buckinghamshire Council is seeking an Environmental Protection Officer to investigate regulatory matters and drive compliance across the county, balancing proactive advice with formal action when required.

You will manage a personal caseload, respond to noise and nuisance requests, assess licensing and planning applications, contribute specialist input on large developments, and help train colleagues to maintain high standards of enforcement.

Qualifications

• Diploma, Degree or MSc in Environmental Health or equivalent qualification and work experience.
• Substantial relevant experience in environmental protection, including noise and statutory nuisance.
• Expert knowledge of legislation, regulations, best practices, systems, policies and procedures.
• Proven ability to conduct formal interviews, gather evidence, and handle sensitive issues.

Responsibilities

• Conduct investigations and take informal or formal action as appropriate.
• Manage a personal caseload of environmental protection work to ensure compliance.
• Investigate requests related to noise and nuisance and coordinate with other agencies.
• Assess and respond to licensing and planning applications and attend hearings.
• Provide specialist input on large-scale developments from an environmental protection perspective.
• Deliver training and support to colleagues to maintain competencies in regulatory interventions.
