Job summary

Buckinghamshire Council is recruiting an Environmental Protection Officer to investigate and ensure regulatory compliance across environmental protection, including noise issues. You will manage a caseload, liaise with agencies, and contribute to planning considerations while applying robust professional judgement.

The role offers flexible working arrangements, with potential for job share and part-time options for the right candidate, and opportunities to train colleagues and develop regulatory

Qualifications

• Diploma, Degree or MSc in Environmental Health or equivalent qualification and work experience.
• Substantial relevant experience in environmental protection including noise and statutory nuisance.
• Expert knowledge of relevant legislation, regulations and procedures.
• Proven ability to conduct interviews, gather evidence and handle sensitive issues.
• Ability to work collaboratively with teams, other departments and external agencies.
• Full driving licence and flexible working capability, including outside core hours.

Responsibilities

• Conduct investigations and take informal or formal action as appropriate.
• Manage a personal caseload of environmental protection work ensuring compliance.
• Investigate noise and nuisance requests and take action with partner agencies.
• Assess licensing and planning applications and attend hearings.
• Provide specialist input on large developments from an environmental protection perspective.
• Deliver training and support to colleagues to maintain regulatory competencies.
