We are looking for an Environmental Project Manager (EPM) to join our National Environmental Assessment and Service team (NEAS). The EPM is an environmental technical specialist, supporting delivery of the FCERM capital programme and contributing to the achievement of corporate environmental and sustainability targets by providing specialist advice.
NEAS manage the environmental assessment of many of the Environment Agency’s capital projects and the Strategic Environmental Assessment of relevant Strategies and Plans to ensure projects fully comply with environmental legislation and policy.
This advert is for national recruitment. We currently have a vacancy in the Eastern Hub. However, applicants successful at interview from any geographical location will be held on our reserve list for the next 6 months and may be offered roles in other teams nationally if vacancies arise.
Duties will include:
- Providing assurance on compliance with environmental legislation, conformance with Government and Environment Agency plans, policies and strategies for the environment and conformance with the Environment Agency's sustainability strategy.
- Screening Environment Agency projects to determine environmental legislative requirements and advise on environmental risks and opportunities, consents and approvals.
- Providing expert advice on legal requirements and processes for a range of environmental assessments, including Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA).
- Ensuring environmental services are incorporated into scope of services for delivery partners and assure the quality of environmental products.
Responding to incidents is a central part of what we do. You will be required to have an incident role and make yourself available to respond to incidents or provide business continuity support during an incident. This may attract an additional payment and full training and alternative working arrangements will be available to support you.
The team
NEAS is divided into 6 operational Hubs, each being led by an Operational Unit Manager, supported by Principal Environmental Specialists and Team Leaders. Each team works collaboratively with our environmental supply partners to provide technical expertise and support day-to-day delivery of projects within our flood & coastal erosion risk management programme.
You’ll be a member of a team comprised of colleagues with professional backgrounds in archaeology/heritage, ecology, environmental assessment, sustainability, carbon and landscape design.
Experience/skills Required
Essential:
Educated in environmental science or a related subject at degree level
Understanding of Environmental Impact Assessment
Strong communication and influencing skills
Desirable:
Membership (or working towards membership) of a professional environmental institute
Knowledge of flood and coastal risk management, however in house training is available.
Involvement in infrastructure projects
Experience in managing the environmental risk in projects
Experience as an environmental adviser within multi-disciplinary project teams
