Job summary

Southern Water is seeking an Environmental Advisor to manage environmental risk at project level, guiding design through construction across a diverse portfolio of infrastructure projects. Based in Falmer with hybrid working, you will provide expert environmental guidance under the Enabling Team in Engineering Technical Services (ETS).

Qualifications

• Degree qualified in Environmental Science, Environmental Management, Geography, Ecology, Environmental Engineering or a related environmental discipline.
• Postgraduate qualification and/or membership of a relevant professional body (e.g. ISEP/CIWEM) would be advantageous.
• 4 or more years' experience in an environmental assessment role.
• Strong organisational, written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work on own initiative on technical matters.
• Experience in engaging with specialists on landscape, noise, odour, water/air quality, waste, planning, etc.
• Experience preparing environmental appraisals and Environmental Impact Assessments.

Responsibilities

• Undertaking environmental assessments across a range of projects.
• Producing clear, accurate reports with well-reasoned conclusions supported by evidence.
• With support from senior colleagues, solving complex environmental challenges and developing mitigation strategies.
• Actively managing your own continuing professional development with guidance from your line manager.
