What matters to us
- Degree qualified (or equivalent experience)
- Full member of a professional institution (e.g., IEMA, IES, CIWEM, CIEEM) with relevant chartered status
- Full driving license and willingness to travel
- DBS check required prior to appointment
- Significant environmental management experience in the construction industry on large infrastructure projects or equivalent (over 7 years)
- Chartered Environmentalist
- Experience with an EUSR (water hygiene) blue card (can be obtained in role)
- Experience in tunnelling
Your contribution to our company
Reporting to the Haweswater Aqueduct Resilience Programme (HARP) Project directorate and the Senior Environment and Sustainability Manager, the main purpose of this role is to:
- Lead all environmental aspects of STRABAG's work on the HARP Project and wider business in line with our management system, environment and sustainability strategy, and project requirements
- Ensure full implementation of the ISO 14001 compliant Environmental and Sustainability Management System (ESMS) on the project
- Build and lead an efficient environmental management team fostering STRABAG’s team culture
- Advise and support project leadership in environmental and sustainability responsibilities
- Manage the ESMS, support the implementation of ISO 50001 Energy Management System, and develop systems compliant with PAS 2080 and ISO 46001
- Manage communication and risk related to environmental requirements, ensuring statutory duties and system requirements are understood across the project team
- Develop project-specific management plans, risk assessments, and method statements
- Conduct environmental assurance activities, monitor compliance, and analyze environmental data
- Maintain records for compliance, compile reports, review trends, and implement improvements
- Support waste management, segregation, and compliance audits
- Conduct due diligence on permits and develop plans to secure necessary approvals
- Collaborate with procurement to ensure environmental standards are met and conduct supplier audits
- Lead investigations of environmental incidents and support incident investigations
- Manage stakeholder relations, attend meetings, and represent STRABAG in external forums
- Recruit, mentor, and develop the environmental team, ensuring high standards and health and safety
- Participate in wider industry groups, share best practices, and support strategic initiatives
