Job summary

SGS is a busy environmental laboratory where you will analyse a wide variety of samples, including water, soil, waste and oil & gas materials, helping customers make informed decisions on environmental safety and compliance.

You will operate laboratory instrumentation, follow recognised industry methods, record results in the LIMS, perform QC, assist with calibration, and contribute to continuous improvement while developing your technical knowledge.

Qualifications

• Interest in science, chemistry, environmental testing, or lab operations.
• Excellent attention to detail with precise sample handling.
• Strong organisational skills and ability to meet deadlines.
• Effective written and verbal communication.
• Proficiency using computer systems and accurate data entry.
• Calm and focused in a fast-paced laboratory environment.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and analyse environmental samples (water, soil, waste, oil & gas materials).
• Operate laboratory instrumentation and perform testing per industry methods.
• Record and review results in the LIMS.
• Deliver high-quality data within customer deadlines.
• Perform quality control checks and assist investigations.
• Support maintenance, calibration and troubleshooting of equipment.
• Contribute to continuous improvement and ensure safety/compliance.
• Assist with preparation and dispatch of sample kits.
• Develop technical knowledge through on-the-job training.
