Job summary

Varnom & Ross Ltd. in the South East is working with a council to recruit an Environmental Enforcement Officer on an interim, six-month rolling contract.

The role is hybrid, predominantly office-based, and focuses on proactive and reactive enforcement to protect the local environment. You will investigate offences such as littering, fly-tipping and dog fouling, gather evidence, prepare witness statements and case files, and attend hearings when required.

Qualifications

• Experience enforcing environmental regulations and byelaws.
• Knowledge of PSPOs and local environmental policies.
• Ability to build a clear evidential trail for prosecutions.

Responsibilities

• Undertake high-visibility patrols across the borough to identify, prevent and investigate environmental offences.
• Enforce relevant environmental legislation, local byelaws, PSPOs and other regulations.
• Investigate offences including littering, fly-tipping, illegal waste disposal, dog fouling, etc.
• Identify offenders, obtain evidence and issue enforcement notices where appropriate.
• Gather, record and preserve evidence; prepare witness statements and case files for legal proceedings.
• Attend court or hearings to provide evidence when required.
• Ensure enforcement action is proportionate, consistent and evidence-based.
• Identify repeat offenders and hotspots for targeted enforcement.
