Smartsearch Recruitment in Dudley is seeking an experienced Environmental & Compliance Manager to join a growing waste management, recycling and resource recovery business. You will take hands-on responsibility for environmental compliance across multiple local operations and help manage future development projects.

Qualifications

• Previous environmental/compliance experience within the waste management, recycling or resource recovery sector is required.
• Knowledge of Environmental Permitting Regulations within waste/recycling.
• Experience dealing with Environment Agency and regulatory bodies.
• Understanding of waste movements and downstream outlet compliance.

Environmental & Compliance Manager (Waste & Recycling) c£50 £55k + Benefits Dudley

We are recruiting for an experienced Environmental & Compliance Manager to join a well-established business operating within the waste management, recycling and resource recovery sector.

This is a newly created role, responsible for environmental compliance and waste compliance across several local operations. With increasing regulation and a number of future development projects planned, you'll play a key role in ensuring the business remains compliant while supporting its continued growth.

Compliance & Environmental Manager - The Role

Reporting directly to a Director and working closely with operational management and a wider group environmental function, you'll take hands-on responsibility for environmental compliance, including:

• Managing environmental permits, exemptions, variations and associated regulatory requirements.
• Ensuring compliance with relevant waste and environmental legislation, including evolving requirements such as digital waste tracking.
• Maintaining oversight of waste classifications, codes, documentation, movements and downstream outlets.
• Liaising directly with the Environment Agency and other relevant regulatory bodies.
• Managing water discharge consents and other environmental notifications.
• Supporting planning, permitting and environmental requirements for new sites, operational changes and expansion projects.
• Supporting integrated management systems including ISO 9001, 14001 and 45001.
• Advising operational teams and management on environmental compliance and regulatory change.

About You

Previous environmental/compliance experience within the waste management, recycling or resource recovery sector is required.

We're looking for an experienced Environmental Manager, Environmental Compliance Manager, Waste Compliance Manager or similar who understands the regulatory environment and can apply that knowledge practically within an operational business.

• Working knowledge of Environmental Permitting Regulations within waste/recycling.
• Experience managing environmental permits, exemptions and compliance requirements.
• Good knowledge of waste classifications, codes, duty of care and associated documentation.
• Experience dealing directly with the Environment Agency.
• Understanding of waste movements and downstream outlet compliance.
• Knowledge of ISO management systems, particularly ISO 14001.
• The ability to interpret regulatory change and translate it into practical actions for the business.
• Strong communication skills with the confidence to work across operations, senior management, regulators and external stakeholders.
• Relevant environmental or waste management qualifications would be advantageous, although practical industry experience is more important.
• Experience of international waste shipments would be beneficial but isn't essential.
