Responsibilities

  • Manage obligations under MCPD and UK ETS frameworks.

  • Support subsistence charging and provide forecasting to Finance.
  • Assist with permit applications and liaise with external consultants.
  • Track emissions monitoring and engage with Environment Agency reporting.

Job description

Location: Nottinghamshire, Hybrid working

Type: Permanent, full-time

Our client is a dynamic powerhouse delivering grid-scale energy storage and power infrastructure across the UK. Backed by major infrastructure investors and scaling rapidly, our Client is recruiting for a Compliance Coordinator to join them on a permanent staff basis.

The Role

This is an exciting opportunity for an early-mid level environmental and compliance professional to support the delivery of our Client’s energy development projects. Reporting to the Development Director, you will work closely with the company’s Operations Manager and Control Room team based in Nottinghamshire. Our Client is looking for an individual with good environmental / compliance foundations keen to learn and develop as the firm grows. In addition, there will be interaction with the wider development and construction team in the NorthWest to ensure that new projects consider the latest developments in terms of compliance and permitting for the schemes.

Key Responsibilities

Main accountability: Managing the company’s obligations under the MCPD and UKETS framework.

Monthly internal tracking/reporting, dealing with any metering issues with control room.

Arranging and reviewing tendering from the external independent auditors.

Dealing with any improvement work required from audits. Submitting necessary permit Variations via Environment Agency Portals.

Entering annual activity data via Environment Agency Portals.

Supporting annual subsistence charging in conjunction with our Client’s finance team.

Providing forecasting to Finance team to procure necessary UKAs from the Registry.

Assist with new Permit applications on new sites and submission of Permit Variations. This is carried out in conjunction with external consultants whom you will be interacting with on a regular basis.

Tracking of ongoing emissions monitoring requirements on a site basis.

Supporting engagement with the Environment Agency to provide reporting of our emissions and ensure their compliance reports are received.

Scheduling emission monitoring with contractors and the Control Room and attending monitoring activities as necessary.

Updating of our Client’s Environmental Management System as required under the Permitting regime.

General compliance activities as related to existing Sites but also our Client’s development portfolio of Battery Energy Storage (BESS) projects entering construction.

Proactive engagement with industry workgroups and consultations is expected to ensure the company remains at the forefront of industry.

Additional responsibilities may extend to assisting the Development Director with Capacity Market administration, e.g. annual prequalification and ongoing Agreement management activities. Experience doing this is desirable but not essential.

Key Requirements

Essential Skills & Qualifications:

Degree (or equivalent qualification/experience) in environmental science or equivalent field

Experience in the energy sector is ideal, but not essential. Experience in adjacent sectors is also interesting to our Client, e.g.:

Chemicals / petrochemicals – particularly candidates in highly regulated environments

Heavy manufacturing / industrial – e.g. steel, automotive, engineering, cement, mining etc.

Utilities – particularly water, wastewater, gas and electricity

Waste and recycling – especially candidates with experience of environmental permitting and regulatory compliance

Infrastructure / construction – particularly environmental or EHS advisors with experience managing environmental requirements and compliance

Our Client seek someone who is keen to learn and develop in the role. They seek a person with a good environmental / compliance foundation keen to learn and develop as the firm grows.

Good digital skills (confidence with Excel, data/reporting, programming, or GIS) would be preferred.

There is a need for good written and verbal communication skills and an ability to coordinate your own movements and prioritise your own workload.

Ability to engage with a variety of external stakeholders.

Strong analytical skills with attention to detail in preparing applications and reports.

Proven experience operating in a similar industry in an environmental or compliance position, or as part of a government regulator or within an independent auditing company or environmental consultancy.

Full UK driving license is essential. The role is based at our Client’s Nottingham Office but there will be a need to travel to the company head office in the North West and operational and development power generation sites, as well as to external location.

Relevant knowledge of industry fire and drainage requirements would be advantageous (but not essential at all).
