Job summary

Matchtech Group seeks a Senior Environmental Consultant to join its expanding UK infrastructure team, delivering desk-based and site-based environmental consultancy across diverse projects to support sustainable delivery and regulatory compliance.

The role requires Chartered status or active progress toward chartership, strong communication, and the ability to manage complex projects and mentor junior staff, with travel to client sites as needed.

Qualifications

• Demonstrable experience in environmental consultancy or a similar role.
• Solid understanding of UK environmental legislation, regulations and guidance.
• Knowledge of sustainability, carbon assessment or biodiversity net gain.
• Strong desk research, data handling, report writing, and project management skills.
• Proven ability to collaborate with clients, planning authorities, regulators and stakeholders.
• Excellent written and verbal communication; able to manage competing priorities.
• Chartered status, or active progress toward chartership, with a relevant professional body.
• Valid UK driving licence and willingness to travel regularly.

Responsibilities

• Providing desk-based and site-based environmental consultancy services across infrastructure projects.
• Collaborating with engineers, designers, construction teams and operational specialists to support compliant and sustainable project delivery.
• Identifying opportunities for improvement through carbon, biodiversity net gain and sustainability evaluations.
• Preparing and reviewing environmental reports and project documentation.
• Managing complex and large-scale projects, coordinating resources and monitoring progress.
• Engaging with regulators, planning authorities, consultees and stakeholders to address constraints and opportunities.
• Supporting fee proposals, time allocation and effective project management.
• Mentoring junior team members and contributing to service development.

Our client is seeking a Senior Environmental Consultant to join its expanding team of environmental specialists within the UK infrastructure sector. This permanent role will support the safe delivery, renewal and development of essential infrastructure, working across design, construction and operational environments.

Key Responsibilities:

• Providing desk-based and site-based environmental consultancy services across a varied portfolio of infrastructure projects
• Working collaboratively with engineers, designers, construction teams and operational specialists to support compliant and sustainable project delivery
• Identifying opportunities for improvement through carbon, biodiversity net gain and wider sustainability evaluations
• Preparing, reviewing and taking technical ownership of environmental reports and project documentation
• Managing complex and large-scale projects, coordinating resources and monitoring project progress
• Engaging with statutory regulators, planning authorities, consultees and other stakeholders to address environmental constraints and opportunities
• Supporting fee proposals, time allocation and effective project management
• Mentoring junior team members and contributing to the development of environmental services

Job Requirements:

• Demonstrable experience in environmental consultancy or a similar environmental role
• Sound understanding of UK environmental legislation, regulations and relevant guidance
• Knowledge or experience in sustainability, carbon assessment or biodiversity net gain
• Strong skills in desk research, data handling, report writing, report review and project management
• Proven ability to collaborate effectively with clients, planning authorities, regulators and stakeholders
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities
• Chartered status, or active progress towards chartership, with a relevant professional industry body
• Valid UK driving licence and willingness to travel regularly to offices, client locations and project sites, including occasional overnight stays
