Job Description:

Environmental Clerk of Works required for a contract basis on a major highways improvement scheme in South West Wales.

The Environmental Clerk of Works will work closely with project managers across the region, providing advice on ecological and environmental issues during the project's final phases. Typical issues include protected species, pollution, surface water management, material management, air quality, and noise.

Your responsibilities will include:

1. Providing site checks for notable and protected species prior to clearance and conducting destructive searches.
2. Monitoring sites and advising construction teams on ecological constraints and mitigation measures.
3. Ensuring compliance with relevant legislation, planning conditions, and documents like the Construction Environment Management Plan (CEMP).
4. Acting as a key contact for clients and stakeholders, working with ecologists, hydrologists, planners, and engineers to deliver integrated ECoW services.
5. Understanding complex ecological issues and liaising with specialists.
6. Supervising contractors to ensure compliance with protected species licenses and environmental protections.
7. Assisting in developing, reviewing, and approving environmental risk assessments, impact studies, and work plans.
8. Investigating environmental non-conformances and audit findings, recommending corrective actions.

Candidates should have experience in similar roles, preferably on large civil engineering projects, and possess the following:

• Experience as an Ecological/Environmental Clerk of Works (ECoW) on large civil projects.
• Degree or diploma in Ecology, Environmental Science, or relevant qualifications.
• Experience with ecological issues like protected species surveys and mitigation.
• Knowledge of environmental management systems (ISO 14001, ISO 50001, ISO 20400, BS 8001).
• Full membership of CIEEM or equivalent.
• Strong teamwork and communication skills, both written and verbal.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
