Job description

Vacancy: Environmental and Sustainability Manager

Title: Environmental and Sustainability Manager

Reports to: CEO

Based at: Brookhouse Mill, Holme Mill and Hemel Hempstead

Job purpose: The Environmental and Sustainability Manager will create an ESG Strategy and drive initiatives and strategies to ensure the company operates with social responsibility and minimal environmental impact. This role will spearhead efforts to integrate sustainable practices into manufacturing processes and lead the company towards its sustainability goals.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Assess all sites for compliance to ISO14001 and ensure business readiness to retain its certification.
  2. Develop and oversee implementation of Sustainability policies, programmes and practices in line with ISO14001 and the ESG.
  3. Create a roadmap to retaining ISO14001 and achieving targets for ESG.
  4. Ensure compliance with environmental regulations and legislation at local, national, and international levels.
  5. Conduct environmental audits to assess risk and develop strategies to optimize resource utilization and reduce waste.
  6. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate sustainable practices into product development and supply chain operations.
  7. Lead initiatives in energy efficiency, waste reduction, water conservation, and recycling.
  8. Prepare sustainability metrics, reports and presentations for senior management and stakeholders, outlining progress and areas for improvement with escalation protocols.
  9. Engage with external organizations and participate in industry forums to promote the company's environmental activities and corporate social responsibility (CSR) objectives.
  10. Provide education and training programs to employees about sustainability practices and initiatives.
  11. Adhere to and promote the Cormar Values.

Other:

  1. Understand how own role impacts on the organisation and its objectives.
  2. Contribute to company improvement initiatives (e.g. MSQ surveys, culture surveys).
  3. A flexible approach to assist with other duties as required and if called upon during unsociable hours.

Skills / Qualifications:

  1. Bachelor's degree in environmental science, Sustainability, or a related field.
  2. Lead auditor for ISO14001.
  3. Minimum 5 years of experience in environmental management within an industrial or manufacturing setting.
  4. Strong understanding of environmental laws and sustainability.
  5. Experience in project management.
  6. Excellent analytical, communication, and interpersonal skills.
