Job summary

Natural Resources Wales is seeking an Environment Assistant to support the Ceredigion Environment Team in delivering sustainable natural resource management. The role is based in a rural location and requires a full UK driving licence. NRW supports flexible and hybrid working patterns.

You will gain hands-on experience across regulatory processes, conservation work, and incident response while contributing to communities and the environment.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate regulatory compliance information and incident response rotas.
  • Develop knowledge in processes such as evidence collation or permit determinations.
  • Respond to basic customer queries and route complex ones to staff.
  • Process procurement requests and maintain equipment per procedures.
  • Undertake health and safety duties.
  • Support NRW Equal Opportunities and Diversity policy and personal development plan (Sgwrs).
  • Take part in incident response activities.
  • Perform other duties commensurate with the grade.

We are looking for an enthusiastic and organised Environment Assistant to support the Ceredigion Environment Team in delivering sustainable natural resource management across Ceredigion.

We are looking for an enthusiastic and organised Environment Assistant to support the Ceredigion Environment Team in delivering sustainable natural resource management across Ceredigion. In this varied and rewarding role, you will be the backbone of the team - handling everything from managing procurement, processing compliance data, and responding to public enquiries. You will gain hands‑on experience in regulatory processes, conservation work, pollution response, and more - all while contributing to the wellbeing of communities and the environment. Driving is essential to this role as it is based in a rural location with poor public transport links and site visits are required. You must hold a full and current UK driving license. As an organisation we support flexible working. You will be contracted to the NRW office at the above location and a suitable hybrid working pattern will be agreed on appointment. Any regular face to face meetings or training will be planned in advance. Interviews will be face to face (details of location will be shared in advance).

What You Will Do
  • Support the integrated delivery of functions by the team and place including collation of complex regulatory compliance and enforcement information, coordination of responses and administration of incident response rotas.
  • Hold or develop a knowledge in processes such as evidence collation, database administration or simple permit determinations that supports the delivery of work by the team or place.
  • Respond to basic customer queries and ensure that more complex queries are recorded and passed on to relevant staff.
  • Support and process procurement requests for the team or place to ensure appropriate equipment is available and maintained in line with procedures.
  • Undertake health and safety duties and responsibilities appropriate to the post
  • Be committed to Natural Resources Wales Equal Opportunities and Diversity Policy , together with an understanding of how it operates within the responsibilities of the post
  • Be committed to your own development through the effective use of your personal development plan (known as Sgwrs).
  • Required to take part in incident response activities.
  • Any other reasonable duties requested commensurate with the grade of this role.
Your qualifications, experience, knowledge and skills

In your application and interview you will be asked to demonstrate the following skills and experience using the STAR method.

Welsh Language level requirements
  • Essential: Level A1 - Beginner
Additional Information

Successful applicants will be subject to a satisfactory Disclosure and Barring Service Check (DBS) check. Appointments are normally made within 4 to 8 weeks of the closing date. Natural Resources Wales is unable to offer visa sponsorship for this position. Although we hold a Skilled Worker visa sponsorship licence, it applies only to specific roles that meet both the eligibility criteria and salary requirements set out by the UK Government under the Skilled Worker visa route.
