Job summary

West Midlands Police is recruiting a Criminal Records Officer to process Enhanced DBS checks for individuals seeking roles involving children or vulnerable adults. The role requires interrogating complex police systems, documenting findings, and conducting risk assessments to determine suitability in line with the Quality Assurance Framework.

The successful candidate will work in a target-driven environment, liaise with DBS and external agencies, and manage applications through the IT system

Qualifications

• Processing Enhanced DBS check applications and ensuring eligibility.
• Interrogating Police IT systems and databases to identify relevant information.
• Conducting risk assessments to determine suitability for working with vulnerable groups.

Responsibilities

• Search, interrogate and extract information from Police systems to identify records on DBS applicants.
• Analyse information and prepare the Audit Trail document with clear, concise reporting in the Hit Relevance Table.
• Decide if information can be discarded and document rationale per QAF.
• Escalate to a Decision Maker when disclosure is needed with supporting briefing reports.
• Liaise with internal colleagues, DBS, and external agencies to obtain further information.
• Provide DBS advice and guidance to internal departments, external agencies and the public.
