Job summary

Quantum Scholars is seeking a patient, experienced AP/EOTAS English Tutor to provide personalised one-to-one English tuition in Wokingham. The role focuses on helping the learner progress academically while rebuilding confidence and ongoing engagement with learning.

The tutor should be able to adapt teaching methods to individual needs, support GCSE preparation where appropriate, and uphold safeguarding and welfare of the young person.

Qualifications

• Strong English subject knowledge at secondary level.
• Experience supporting children or young people in an educational setting (tutoring, AP, EOTAS).
• Experience with SEND and/or SEMH learners is desirable.
• Ability to adapt teaching approaches to individual learning needs.
• Enhanced DBS check and satisfactory references.
• Right to work in the UK.

Responsibilities

• Provide personalised one-to-one English tuition to a learner in EOTAS or AP.
• Support GCSE preparation where appropriate.
• Develop skills in reading, writing, comprehension, spelling, grammar and vocabulary.
• Plan engaging, accessible lessons and adapt pace to the learner.
• Monitor progress and provide feedback to parents/carers and other professionals.

English Tutor - Wokingham

Location: Wokingham, Berkshire

Quantum Scholars are looking for a patient, supportive and experienced AP/EOTAS English Tutor to provide personalised one-to-one English tuition to a young person in Wokingham accessing alternative provision or EOTAS.

The successful tutor will have experience supporting learners who may have struggled to access mainstream education and will be confident adapting their teaching style, pace and resources to meet individual needs. The role will focus on helping the young person make academic progress while also rebuilding confidence, engagement and a positive attitude towards learning.

Experience working with SEND, SEMH, school avoidance, anxiety, disengagement or other barriers to education would be highly desirable.

This is an in-person tutoring role and is not online work.

The role may involve:

• Providing personalised one-to-one English tuition to a young person accessing EOTAS or Alternative Provision.
• Supporting the learner with the secondary English curriculum and, where appropriate, GCSE preparation.
• Developing skills in reading, writing, comprehension, spelling, grammar and vocabulary.
• Identifying gaps in knowledge and adapting lessons accordingly.
• Planning engaging, accessible and appropriately challenging lessons.
• Adapting teaching methods, resources and pace to suit the learner's individual needs.
• Supporting a young person who may have experienced barriers to mainstream education.
• Helping to rebuild confidence, motivation and engagement with learning.
• Creating a calm, structured and supportive learning environment.
• Using the learner's interests to encourage participation and make lessons more engaging.
• Supporting exam preparation, revision and exam technique where appropriate.
• Developing communication, literacy and independent learning skills.
• Encouraging resilience, confidence and positive attitudes towards education.
• Monitoring progress and providing appropriate feedback to parents/carers and other professionals.
• Building a positive and trusting relationship with the young person.
• Working collaboratively with families and other members of the learner's support team.
• Maintaining professional boundaries and confidentiality.

Essential requirements:

• Strong English subject knowledge at secondary level.
• Experience supporting children or young people in an educational, tutoring, AP, EOTAS or similar setting.
• Experience working with SEND and/or SEMH learners is highly desirable.
• Experience supporting young people who may have barriers to mainstream education.
• Ability to adapt teaching approaches to individual learning needs.
• Experience providing one-to-one support is desirable.
• A patient, calm, flexible and empathetic approach.
• Ability to build positive and trusting relationships with young people.
• Confidence supporting learners who may be reluctant or disengaged from education.
• Strong communication and organisational skills.
