Aspire People are seeking a Secondary SEN Teacher (English) in Shrewsbury. You will teach English to secondary pupils within a specialist SEN setting, delivering engaging, differentiated lessons and supporting pupils with a range of SEN.

The role is full-time and long-term, with potential for permanency for the right candidate. Ideally you hold QTS with a strong English background, experience in SEN, and a nurturing, patient approach to helping pupils grow academically, socially and emotionally

Secondary SEN Teacher - English - Shrewsbury

Location: Shrewsbury

Hours: 8:30am - 3:30pm

Contract: Full-time | Term-time only

Duration: Long-term, with the opportunity to become permanent for the right candidate

Are you a passionate and experienced Secondary Teacher with an English background looking for your next opportunity supporting pupils with SEN?

Aspire People are currently recruiting for a Secondary SEN Teacher with an English specialism/background to join a fantastic specialist setting in Shrewsbury on a full-time, long-term basis, with the potential for a permanent position for the right candidate.

This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who is nurturing, patient and passionate about supporting young people with additional needs, while using their subject knowledge to help pupils engage with and enjoy learning.

The Role
  • Teaching English across secondary age groups
  • Working within a specialist SEN setting
  • Planning and delivering engaging, accessible and differentiated lessons
  • Supporting pupils with a range of SEN and additional needs
  • Adapting teaching and learning to meet individual needs and abilities
  • Supporting pupils with Autism, ADHD, SEMH and other additional needs
  • Providing 1:1 and small-group support where required
  • Supporting pupils with their academic, social and emotional development
  • Helping pupils develop confidence, independence and life skills
  • Utilising specialist areas, sensory spaces and safe spaces where appropriate
  • Working closely with support staff and the wider SEN team
  • Building positive and trusting relationships with pupils
  • Creating a safe, nurturing and inclusive learning environment
About You

Ideally, you will have:

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or recognised equivalent
  • A strong English subject background
  • Previous experience teaching at secondary level
  • Experience working with children or young people with SEN
  • Experience within a specialist SEN setting would be highly beneficial
  • Experience supporting pupils with Autism, ADHD, SEMH or complex additional needs
  • A genuine passion for supporting young people with additional needs
  • A patient, calm, empathetic and nurturing approach
  • Strong classroom management and communication skills
  • The ability to adapt lessons and teaching approaches to individual pupils
  • Teachers with strong English experience who are looking to move into a specialist SEN setting are also encouraged to apply.
