Are you an inspiring English Teacher looking for a role where you can make a genuine difference?

We are working with a fantastic school, an independent specialist school, who are looking to appoint a passionate and dedicated English Teacher from January 2027 to cover a maternity leave.

This is a fantastic opportunity for an enthusiastic teacher who wants to use their skills to engage, inspire and support young people who may have previously struggled to find success within mainstream education.

About the School

Established in April 2005, this school provides specialist education for up to 60 pupils aged 11–18 with a range of additional needs, including:

  • Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC/ASD)
  • ADHD
  • Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs
  • Learning difficulties
  • Other Special Educational Needs (SEN)

The school takes a highly individualised approach to education, recognising that every young person has different needs, strengths and aspirations.

Its aim is to help pupils develop positive attitudes towards learning, rebuild confidence and achieve success, while providing the academic support, care and guidance needed to prepare them for life beyond school.

The Role

As the English Teacher, you will be responsible for delivering engaging and accessible English lessons, adapting your teaching approach to meet the individual needs and abilities of pupils.

You will play an important role in helping young people develop their literacy, communication and confidence, while encouraging a positive attitude towards education.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Planning and delivering engaging English lessons to pupils aged 11–18.
  • Adapting lessons and learning materials to accommodate a range of SEN/SEMH needs.
  • Supporting pupils to develop their reading, writing, comprehension and communication skills.
  • Creating a positive, inclusive and supportive classroom environment.
  • Building strong relationships with pupils and encouraging positive engagement.
  • Managing behaviour effectively using a supportive and consistent approach.
  • Monitoring pupil progress and contributing towards individual learning goals.
  • Working collaboratively with colleagues to support the wider development of each pupil.
The Ideal Candidate

We are keen to hear from teachers who:

  • Hold Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or an equivalent recognised teaching qualification.
  • Have experience teaching English at secondary level.
  • Have a genuine passion for working with young people with additional needs.
  • Can adapt their teaching style to engage pupils with different learning abilities.
  • Are patient, resilient, approachable and enthusiastic.
  • Have experience or an interest in working within SEN, SEMH or alternative provision.
  • Can build positive relationships and inspire pupils who may have experienced challenges in education.

Previous SEN/SEMH experience would be advantageous, but we would also welcome applications from mainstream teachers looking to move into specialist education.

What's on Offer?
  • January 2027 start.
  • Maternity cover opportunity.
  • A rewarding teaching role within a specialist independent school.
  • The opportunity to make a genuine difference to young people's educational journeys.
  • A supportive environment focused on individual pupil development.
  • The chance to develop your experience within SEN/SEMH education.
