A large and well-established secondary academy in Barnsley is seeking to appoint an enthusiastic and dedicated Teacher of English to join its successful English department from September 2026. This is a long-term opportunity for a passionate educator who is committed to raising achievement and inspiring a love of literature and language among students across Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan, prepare and deliver high-quality English lessons to students across KS3 and KS4.
- Assess, monitor and track student progress, providing timely feedback to support achievement.
- Differentiate learning activities to meet the needs of all learners, including those with SEND and EAL.
- Create a positive and inclusive classroom environment that promotes excellent behaviour and engagement.
- Prepare students effectively for GCSE English Language and English Literature examinations.
- Contribute to departmental planning, moderation and curriculum development activities.
- Attend staff meetings, parents' evenings and relevant school events.
- Uphold safeguarding procedures and promote the welfare of all students.
- Work collaboratively with colleagues, pastoral teams and senior leaders to support student success.
Requirements
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent recognised teaching qualification.
- Degree in English or a related subject.
- Experience teaching English at KS3 and KS4.
- Strong subject knowledge of English Language and English Literature.
- Excellent classroom management and communication skills.
- Ability to motivate and inspire students of varying abilities.
- Commitment to maintaining high standards of teaching, learning and behaviour.
- Enhanced DBS certificate on the Update Service, or willingness to obtain one.
- Right to work in the UK.
Desirable Criteria
- Previous experience within a secondary school or academy setting.
- Experience teaching GCSE examination classes.
- Knowledge of current curriculum developments and assessment practices.
- Ability to contribute to extracurricular activities or enrichment programmes.
