Job summary

Prospero Teaching is seeking a versatile English and Maths Tutor to provide personalised tuition to learners in Wigan. The role focuses on strengthening core literacy and numeracy and addressing gaps in learners' education.

You will deliver tailored lessons, monitor progress and develop engaging resources suited to individual needs, with a flexible, patient teaching approach. This is a part-time position with 5-15 hours per week, starting November 2026 and continuing on an ongoing basis.

The role will involve helping pupils improve their core literacy and numeracy skills, address gaps in their education and work towards individual learning goals.

Key Responsibilities:

• Deliver tailored English and Maths tuition.


• Support reading, writing, spelling, grammar and numeracy.


• Reinforce key concepts across the core curriculum.


• Develop engaging resources suited to individual learning needs.


• Monitor progress and encourage positive learning habits.

Experience, Training and Qualifications:

• Experience teaching or tutoring English and Maths.


• Strong knowledge of the primary and/or secondary curriculum.


• QTS, PGCE or equivalent qualification desirable.


• Experience supporting learners with additional educational needs.


• A flexible, patient and encouraging teaching approach.

Essential Requirements:

• Right to work in the UK.


• Enhanced DBS on the Update Service or willingness to obtain the required clearance.


• Two professional references.
