Job summary

Tradewind Recruitment seeks an English Instructor to teach across Key Stages 3 and 4 in Northampton. The role is full-time, long-term with potential permanent progression, and starts ASAP in a well-regarded secondary school.

Qualifications

• Strong subject knowledge in English Language and/or Literature.
• Experience working with secondary-aged students (teaching, tutoring, mentoring, or education support).
• Confident and capable of leading a classroom independently.
• Patient, approachable, adaptable, and committed to supporting every student's progress.
• Able to build positive relationships with young people and maintain professional boundaries.
• A degree in English or a related subject is desirable but not essential.
• Genuine passion for education and an interest in developing a career within teaching.

Responsibilities

• Deliver engaging and well-structured English lessons across Key Stages 3 and 4, following established schemes of work.
• Support students in developing their reading, writing, spelling, comprehension, and analytical skills.
• Adapt lessons and approaches to meet the needs of students with a range of abilities, including those with SEND and additional learning needs.
• Create a positive, inclusive, and focused classroom environment.
• Encourage students to develop confidence in their English skills and take pride in their learning.
• Work collaboratively with the English department and wider school staff to support student progress.
• Monitor student engagement and provide useful feedback to teaching staff.
• Promote positive behaviour and maintain high expectations within the classroom.
