Job summary

Job description

Flourish Education are currently recruiting English Graduates with a UK university degree and a good understanding of the UK Secondary English curriculum to work as Teaching Assistants, English Intervention Tutors and Cover Supervisors within secondary schools across Dudley and the surrounding areas.

Are you an English Graduate looking to gain valuable experience within a secondary school? Perhaps you are considering a career in teaching and want to experience life in a school before committing to teacher training. Alternatively, you may be looking for a part-time or flexible role working with young people where you can put your English degree and subject knowledge to good use.

We are looking for enthusiastic English Graduates to support pupils across Key Stages 3 and 4. The role could involve supporting pupils individually or in small groups, delivering English interventions, helping with GCSE revision or providing additional support to pupils who need help with particular areas of the English curriculum.

With part-time, flexible and longer-term opportunities available, this role is ideal for graduates who want to gain valuable secondary school experience while maintaining flexibility around their other commitments.

This is also an excellent opportunity for graduates who are considering teacher training or a career in education and want to gain first-hand experience of working within a secondary school environment.

The role will involve:
  • Providing one-to-one English support
  • Working with small groups of pupils
  • Delivering targeted English interventions
  • Supporting KS3 and KS4 pupils
  • Supporting GCSE English revision and booster sessions
  • Helping pupils prepare for GCSE examinations
  • Supporting pupils with reading and comprehension
  • Supporting pupils with written communication and extended writing
  • Helping pupils develop confidence and engagement in English
  • Supporting pupils who have gaps in their subject knowledge
  • Supporting pupils with SEN and additional learning needs
  • Helping pupils develop their literacy and communication skills
  • Making complex English concepts accessible to pupils
  • Working alongside English teachers and wider school staff
  • Building positive relationships with pupils
  • Providing whole-class cover where required
Required Skills and Experience
  • English degree or closely related subject from a UK university
  • Ideally a 2:1 degree or above, although graduates with other degree classifications will also be considered
  • Strong understanding of the UK Secondary English curriculum
  • Good knowledge of KS3 and KS4 English and GCSE content
  • Strong English subject knowledge
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to explain English concepts clearly and in an accessible way
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to engage and motivate young people
  • Experience working with children or young people is desirable
  • Previous school experience is desirable
  • Experience supporting pupils with SEN is desirable
  • Patient, positive and enthusiastic approach
  • Professional and reliable approach
  • Flexible approach to working hours
  • Interest in education, teaching or working with young people is desirable
Working for Flourish Education

As an English Graduate Teaching Assistant, you will receive:

  • £92.59 to £100 per day, which equates to approximately £17,340 to £19,500 per annum based on working 5 days a week for a full school year

Location

This English Graduate Teaching Assistant opportunity is based across Dudley and the surrounding areas, with a range of flexible opportunities available within secondary schools.

The role is easily commutable from Dudley, Halesowen, Stourbridge, Brierley Hill, Kingswinford, Sedgley, Tipton, Oldbury, Rowley Regis, West Bromwich and surrounding areas.

Depending on the location of the school, opportunities may also be accessible from nearby parts of Sandwell, Birmingham and the wider West Midlands.

This could be an ideal role for an English Graduate looking for part-time work in Dudley, whether you are available for one or two days per week, looking for regular work around other commitments, or hoping to build experience before moving into teacher training.
