Job summary

ePropelled is seeking an Engineering Technician - Electronics to support design, build, test, and validate prototypes. You will work with electronics, software, mechanical, and systems engineers to assemble hardware, run tests, record results, and contribute to moving concepts toward production.

You will operate lab equipment, troubleshoot issues, document procedures, and ensure safety and quality in a fast-paced development environment at Coventry Innovation Centre.

Qualifications

  • ONC/HNC or equivalent in Electronics or related discipline.
  • Experience in electronics lab, R&D or product development.
  • Ability to read schematics, wiring diagrams and drawings.
  • Practical experience assembling, testing and troubleshooting electronic hardware.
  • Experience with test/measurement equipment and soldering.
  • Familiarity with PCB technology and components.

Responsibilities

  • Build, assemble, and modify electronic prototypes and test rigs.
  • Support design, development and validation of new electronics products.
  • Conduct functional, environmental and performance testing.
  • Operate lab equipment (oscilloscopes, multimeters, power supplies).
  • Record test results and maintain laboratory documentation.
  • Assist with PCB assembly and component verification.
  • Contribute to test procedures and engineering documentation.
  • Ensure safe, compliant laboratory practices and continuous improvement.

Role Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated Engineering Technician - Electronics to support the design, development, testing, and validation of next-generation products. Working closely with electronics, software, mechanical, and systems engineers, you will play a key role in building prototypes, conducting experiments, troubleshooting hardware, and supporting the transition of products from concept through to production.

This is an exciting opportunity for a hands-on technician who enjoys solving technical challenges and contributing to the development of cutting-edge technologies.

Key Responsibilities

  • Build, assemble, and modify electronic prototypes, test rigs, and development systems.
  • Support engineers with the design, development, and validation of new electronic products and subsystems.
  • Conduct functional, environmental, and performance testing of electronic assemblies and systems.
  • Set up and operate laboratory equipment including oscilloscopes, spectrum analysers, power supplies, electronic loads, data acquisition systems, and multi-meters.
  • Perform fault finding and root cause investigations on wiring harnesses, and electromechanical systems.
  • Assist in soldering, rework, wiring, cable assembly, and prototype fabrication activities.
  • Record test results, maintain accurate laboratory records, and prepare technical reports.
  • Support the development and maintenance of test procedures, work instructions, and engineering documentation.
  • Assist with PCB assembly, component evaluation, and verification activities.
  • Work with engineers to improve product performance, reliability, and manufacturability.
  • Support prototype builds and engineering trials during product development programmes.
  • Ensure laboratory equipment is calibrated, maintained, and operated safely.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives within the engineering team.
  • Maintain compliance with company quality, safety, and regulatory requirements.
Requirements

Required Qualifications & Experience

  • ONC/HNC, Apprenticeship, NVQ Level 3+, or equivalent qualification in Electronics, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronic, or a related discipline.
  • Previous experience in an electronics laboratory, R&D environment, or product development setting.
  • Practical experience assembling, testing, and troubleshooting electronic hardware.
  • Ability to read and interpret electronic schematics, wiring diagrams, and engineering drawings.
  • Experience using electronic test and measurement equipment.
  • Competent soldering and electronic assembly skills.
  • Familiarity with PCB technology and electronic components.
  • Good understanding of safe laboratory working practices.
  • Strong attention to detail and excellent organisational skills.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and within a multidisciplinary engineering team.
  • Experience with power electronics, motor drives, electric propulsion, or battery systems.
  • Knowledge of embedded systems and microcontroller-based products.
  • Familiarity with CAD tools, PCB design software, or engineering data management systems.
  • Experience supporting EMC, environmental, or regulatory testing.
  • Understanding of manufacturing processes and design-for-manufacture principles.
  • Exposure to aerospace, automotive, industrial, or renewable energy markets.
