Job summary

Kerry is recruiting a multi-skilled Engineering Technician to join a team of 7 engineers at the Portbury production facility in Bristol. The role focuses on maintaining flavour blends production lines, preventing downtime, and supporting continuous improvement.

The successful candidate will have electrical bias, relevant qualifications, and experience in food manufacturing. This permanent, 3-shift pattern offers career development and competitive benefits.

Qualifications

  • Must hold HNC or City & Guilds/equivalent electrical qualifications.
  • Experience in food manufacturing or other manufacturing environments is preferred.
  • Electrical bias or multi-skilled with PLC and fluid power knowledge.

Responsibilities

  • Comply with the health and safety policy and regulations.
  • Resolve breakdowns, carry out PMs, and support improvements to minimize downtime.
  • Carry out risk assessments and implement controls to reduce risk to acceptable levels.
  • Lock off dangerous machinery and repair or notify as needed.
  • Document PM sheets and update the Maintenance Planner with observations.
  • Gather information from production staff to speed fault-finding.
  • Maintain engineering logs and ensure accurate data for parts and plant numbers.
  • Maintain professional communications with external contacts.

About The Role

We are currently recruiting for a multi-skilled or electrically biased Engineering Technician to join our team of 7 Engineers at our Portbury production facility in Bristol. This role has become available following an internal promotion, demonstrating the development and career opportunities available within our business. Our Portbury site is a dry blending and mixing facility where we produce flavour blends for some of the world's best-known brands. Every week, hundreds of tonnes of product are accurately measured, blended and packed for our customers.

This is a permanent position, with a 3 shift pattern from Monday to Friday week 1 - PM - 1400 - 22.00 , week 2 - AM - 6.00 - 14.00 and w eek 3 - Nights - 22.00 - 6.00.

Key responsibilities
  • Complying with the health and safety policy and regulations.
  • Resolving breakdowns, carryout PM’s and work on project / improvement works with a view to minimizing production downtime.
  • Carrying out risk assessments with the relevant people and put controls in place to minimise the risk to acceptable levels where reasonably practicable.
  • Lock off any dangerous machinery immediately/ or repair and notify.
  • Actively seek to undertake PMs on offline machinery where time allows.
  • Fully complete PM sheets with all observations, jobs completed and recommendations and file with the Maintenance Planner, whilst always looking at ways of improving to PMs.
  • Actively gain as much information as possible from production personnel regarding the fault on the machine to speed up the fault-finding process.
  • Ensure engineering log and computer systems are fully filled in with all relevant information including PM numbers, all used parts, plant numbers, urgency of required parts, at the end of each shift.
  • Manage all communications with external persons are conducted in a professional manner which reflects the company profile.
Qualifications And Skills
  • HNC, City & Guilds or time served apprentice with appropriate electrical engineering qualifications
  • Experience within a similar role ideally gained within a food manufacturing environment, if not food, experience within any manufacturing environment is highly desirable
  • Electrically or biased, or multi-skilled. PLC experience highly desirable
  • Hydraulic and Pneumatic systems experience highly desirable
  • Flexible approach with a positive 'can-do' attitude
  • Experience of SAP highly desirable.
