Job summary

Ocho People is seeking an Engineering Team Lead in Belfast to steer a cross-functional software engineering team. You will balance hands-on coding with architecture, coach developers, and set engineering standards in a cloud-native, distributed environment.

You will own delivery, collaborate with Product Owners and Architects, and drive CI/CD, testing, and performance improvements while maintaining delivery velocity in a hybrid work model.

Qualifications

• Proven experience leading a software engineering team in an Agile environment.
• Hands-on software engineering background in at least one modern language (C#, Java).
• Designing and building distributed, event-driven, or cloud-native systems.
• Practical experience with CI/CD pipelines and source control (Git, GitLab).
• Solid understanding of OO design and automated testing across unit, integration, end-to-end.
• Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or GCP.
• Strong communication skills to translate technical concepts for non-technical stakeholders.

The Role

Key Responsibilities

• Mentor and coach engineers, supporting performance reviews, career development, and skills growth across the team
• Contribute to incident and problem management, supporting investigation and resolution of production issues where required

What You'll Need

Essential:

• Proven experience leading a software engineering team in an Agile environment, with a strong track record of delivery
• Hands-on software engineering background in at least one modern language, such as C#, Java, or similar
• Demonstrable experience designing and building distributed, event-driven, or cloud-native systems
• Practical experience with CI/CD pipelines and source control (e.g. Git, GitLab, or similar)
• Solid understanding of OO design principles and automated testing across unit, integration, and end-to-end levels
• Experience working with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or GCP
• Strong communication skills and the ability to translate technical concepts for non-technical stakeholders

Desirable:

• Background in financial services, trading platforms, or other complex, transaction-heavy environments
• Experience with microservices, containerisation, and orchestration tools such as Docker or Kubernetes
• Familiarity with front-end technologies such as React or TypeScript alongside back-end development
