Job summary

Associated British Ports (ABP) is recruiting an experienced Engineering Supervisor for the Port of Immingham. You will supervise a multi-disciplinary engineering maintenance team, oversee contractors, and ensure safe, compliant operations across mechanical, civil, and electrical disciplines.

The role involves planning maintenance, managing budgets, and coordinating across Operations, Marine and Estates. PLC/crane familiarity is advantageous; a strong safety mindset is essential.

Qualifications

  • Engineering qualification to NVQ3 or equivalent in relevant discipline with ONC/HNC preferred.
  • Strong leadership skills.

  • Safety awareness to include CDM Regulations.
  • CMMS experience (Ideally Mainsaver or SAP).
  • Full Driving Licence.
  • Continual improvement mindset - able to adapt ways of working.

Responsibilities

  • Direct day-to-day supervision of the engineering maintenance team and contractors ensuring work practices are observed, recorded and actioned.
  • Liaise with the Operations, Marine and Estates Departments and external Contractors to co-ordinate and prioritise maintenance activities.
  • Ensure all necessary Safe Systems of Work and Risk Assessments are prepared, available and issued to the maintenance staff, with toolbox talks and daily safety briefings.
  • All works are to be planned in accordance with Health and Safety legislation and company policies; issue safety documentation including permits and isolation certificates.
  • Maintain the preventative maintenance programme within the CMMS and enter/create work orders for unplanned works.
  • Complete the work planning sheet for feedback into the Daily/Weekly maintenance plan; monitor budgets and obtain best value for ABP when awarding external works or purchasing plant/materials.
  • Monitor and progress fault reports and statutory inspections; attend breakdowns during normal hours and out of hours to provide guidance.

We're currently looking to recruit an experienced Engineering Supervisor to work at our Port Of Immingham. You'll be responsible for supervising maintenance resources to ensure assets are maintained and in compliant working order. As the largest UK Port by Tonnage handling 46 million tonnes of cargo every year, we deal with a wide range of customers and products at Immingham which includes containers, agribulks, building products and rail freight. You'll be a qualified engineer with supervisory experience with either a Mechanical, Civil Maintenance or Electrical bias but will be managing multi-disciplinary teams and an understanding of multiple functions is essential. Some experience of PLCs or crane maintenance is preferred.

Key Accountabilities
  • Responsible for the ongoing management, development and training of team members in line with ABP Values. To undertake appraisals and to ensure team members have sufficient knowledge, through use of Skills Matrix, to be able to operate independently on a day-to-day basis.
  • Direct day-to-day supervision of the engineering maintenance team and contractors ensuring work practices are observed, recorded and actioned.
  • Liaise with the Operations, Marine and Estates Departments and external Contractors as required in order to co-ordinate and prioritise maintenance activities.
  • Ensure all necessary 'Safe Systems of Work' and 'Risk Assessments' are prepared, available and issued to the maintenance staff, ensuring toolbox talks and daily safety briefings are undertaken.
  • All works are to be planned in accordance with all relevant Health and Safety legislation together with company policies and procedures. Issue of safety documentation to include permits, permissions and isolation certificates in line with the permissions detailed within the respective authorisation cards.
  • Maintain the 'preventative maintenance' programme within the Computerised Maintenance Management System (CMMS) as required in order that information may be both entered and retrieved, including the entering/creation of work orders for unplanned works.
  • Completion of the work planning sheet for feedback into the Daily/Weekly maintenance plan Monitor budgets assigned to Engineering Maintenance works with the Engineering Managers. Obtain best value for ABP when either awarding external works or purchasing plant, equipment and or materials.
  • Monitor and progress both fault report work and statutory inspections ensuring works are undertaken and completed as required. Attend break down situations during both normal hours and out of hours in order to convey specific knowledge and give guidance.
Required Skills & Experience
  • Engineering qualification to NVQ3 or equivalent in relevant discipline with ONC/HNC preferred, along with time served experience in a related heavy industry
