GMP Recruitment Agency Limited are recruiting for an Engineering Shift Team Leader at their Tewkesbury depot. You will lead a hands-on engineering team, coordinate planned maintenance and keep production lines running safely and efficiently.

The role involves fault diagnosing on high-speed machinery, mentoring apprentices, and deputising for the Engineering Manager as needed. A commitment to safety and quality is essential, with flexibility for shifting patterns and overtime.

Responsibilities

• Support the Engineering Manager to achieve site objectives.

• Diagnose faults and repair electrical/mechanical plant.
• Lead fault-finding on high-speed automated machinery.
• Maintain engineering paperwork and compliance records.
• Mentor Apprentices and develop their engineering skills.
• Deputise for the Engineering Manager when required.
• Collaborate with Production and Distribution to minimise downtime.
• Participate in the equipment breakdown call-out rota.

Are you an experienced Engineering Shift Team Leader who enjoys being hands-on and making a real difference on the production floor?

Join our busy Engineering team at Tewkesbury Depot, where you’ll play a key role in keeping our production and distribution operations running safely, efficiently and reliably. Working alongside Engineers and Engineering Leads, you’ll provide day-to-day leadership, solve equipment issues and ensure planned maintenance is delivered to a high standard.

What You'll Be Doing

• Supporting the Engineering Manager to achieve departmental and site objectives.
• Leading, supervising and developing a team of Engineers, making the most of individual skills and experience.
• Coordinating and delivering planned preventative maintenance (PPM) schedules.
• Diagnosing faults and carrying out repairs and testing on electrical and mechanical plant and equipment.
• Leading the effective fault-finding and resolution of issues on high-speed automated machinery.
• Ensuring engineering paperwork, records and compliance requirements are completed accurately.
• Supporting and mentoring Apprentices as they develop their engineering skills.
• Deputising for the Engineering Manager when required and providing engineering cover where needed.
• Working collaboratively with Production and Distribution teams to minimise downtime and keep operations running smoothly.
• Participating in the equipment breakdown call-out rota.

What We're Looking For

We're looking for a confident and motivated engineering professional who can lead from the front and remain calm when priorities change.

• A minimum of an electrical-based apprenticeship qualification – essential.
• Experience working with high-speed machinery in an FMCG or similar production environment – essential.
• Strong electrical fault-finding and diagnostic skills.
• Hands-on experience with automated machinery.
• Previous supervisory or people-management experience.
• A proactive, self-motivated approach with the ability to respond quickly to changing priorities.
• Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
• A flexible approach to shifts, deadlines and operational demands.
• A commitment to maintaining high standards of safety, quality and workmanship.

On-Call & Overtime

You’ll join an equipment breakdown call-out rota, typically one week in six.

• £100 weekly retainer
• £50 payment per call-out
• Your normal hourly rate for time spent attending a call-out

Overtime is paid at 1.25x the hourly rate for hours worked over 40 per week.
