Role Summary/Purpose
Working alongside a multi-disciplinary team of engineers, the role will be responsible for the planning, monitoring, control and execution of a project to procure a state-of-the art automated capability for fatigue certification testing of propeller blades and components. The project will encompass the generation of requirements for the future test capability alongside a Statement of Work for external Suppliers to bid against; management of the selected Supplier during the design and manufacture of the test rig; and on-site validation of the capability; and will also include specification and delivery of a steel-frame building to house the new facility. The role will involve direct liaison with internal Customers and stakeholders at senior levels across the business and will therefore require someone with a dynamic personality, capable of proactively resolving problems and driving delivery of the project to cost, quality and schedule.
Essential responsibilities
- Conduct initial detailed project planning for the 2025 project deliverables, and subsequent phased detailed planning throughout the remaining stages of the project.
- Lead the project team to assure timely delivery of project tasks.
- Manage the selected Suppliers to assure the quality and timeliness of delivery of the completed test rig and its associated building.
- Utilise Earned Value (EV) principles to conduct effective monitoring and control to assure the project remains within cost, scope and schedule.
- Liaise with stakeholders across multiple engineering disciplines to assure that the final capability delivered will fulfil internal Dowty and wider GE Aerospace Customer technical requirements, including facilitating Supplier design reviews.
- Conduct routine project reviews as well as formal Tollgate reviews to assure timely progress against business need.
- Report project progress and delivery to stakeholders and Customers across multiple organisations.
- Identify, manage and drive down project risks, carry out risk mitigation actions, review status and resolve or elevate issues as required.
- Implement and maintain GE Aerospace standards of compliance and policy.
Qualifications / Requirements
- Experience in managing Technology Development and/or engineering New Product Introduction projects.
- Bias towards Mechanical Projects
- Manufacturing development of carbon composite parts
- Experience in procuring complex, automated equipment and managing Suppliers during the specification, design, manufacture and validation of such equipment.
- Formal project management qualification, such as: PMI PMP, or equivalent.
- Proven project leadership experience, capable of taking ownership to ensure deadlines are met to cost, quality and schedule.
- Detailed understanding of Earned Value principles.
- Proved track record of strong problem-solving skills and communicating solutions in a concise, professional manner.
- Experience of operating in a pressurised customer-facing environment.
- Proficient in MS Project, Excel, Word and PowerPoint.
