Job summary

Scottish Power Transmissions based in Cambuslang is recruiting an Engineering Project Manager on a contract basis. You will lead field survey activities supporting 132kV+ transmission designs, acting as the primary interface between project teams, contractors and stakeholders to ensure safe, efficient outputs.

The role requires experience in civil/main plant/p&c/ohl/cables designs, strong coordination skills, and a commitment to health, safety and continuous improvement across the project

Job description

Our client Scottish Power Transmissions are currently recruiting for an Engineering Project Manager to join their team based in Cambuslang on a contract basis initially. Ideally for this role they are looking for an experienced Project Manager with a background in engineering designs for transmission networks (132kV and above) in Civil/Plant/P&C/OHL/Cables and other equipment. For more information on this role see below:

Responsible for developing and coordinating the delivery of field survey activities that support detailed engineering designs for transmission networks (132kV and above) in Civil/Plant/P&C/OHL/Cables and other equipment. This will include providing the necessary technical engineering specifications, support, advice, site liaison and input throughout the lifecycle of the project.

The role will act as primary interface between project teams, contractors and stakeholders to ensure survey outputs are delivered safely, efficiently and in accordant with SPT requirements.

Accountability Statements
  • Responsible for coordinating and managing field survey requirements and deliverables to support engineering designs for civils/main plant/P&C/OHL/Cables and other equipment.
  • Assess survey documentation, feasibility and compliance with SPT requirements and support the preparation of accurate budgets for new projects. Coordinate field works with stakeholders to ensure effective execution of requirement survey.
  • Prioritize and make efficient coordination of internal and external survey resources to assure programme delivery on projects
  • Tender assessment of engineering (including suppliers), support to project management on the assessment of bids.
  • Ensure surveys, designs, equipment and construction practices are in accordance with current legislation, policies and operational requirements.
  • Liase across multi disciplinary engineering teams to provide end to end integrated solution.
  • Perform all duties with and promote internally and externally a strong emphasis on health, safety, quality and environmental compliance and continuous improvement.
  • Drive industry best practice and technological advances within the project team/department.
  • Manage departmental workload, providing internal and external stakeholders with workload forecasting.
  • Drive continuous improvement and supplier relationship management across key framework partners.
Dimensions

Manage the forecasting, tendering, scheduling, planning and preparation for:

  • 200 surveys annually
  • 10 framework suppliers
  • Supporting department of 20+ Engineering Project Managers and 150+ engineers.
  • Supporting the delivery of departmental contractor budget of £300m.
Skills, Knowledge & Experience
  • Degree in Engineering discipline or equivalent experience.
  • Working towards membership of a professional institution.
  • Proven experience in a responsible position and knowledge in one or more of the following areas from 33kV to 400kV:
    • Switchgear/Transformers/Transmission and distribution system design
    • Civil design
    • Main Plant design
    • Protection & Control design
    • OHL and cables design
  • Experience in Electricity Network Construction Projects
  • Good inter-personal and communication skills and the ability to form effective working relationships with other individuals, departments and businesses.
  • Knowledge of health & safety requirements and compliance
  • Experience in managing external contractors and suppliers
  • Experience in the planning, management and delivery of field survey activities.
  • Experience in performance management of contractors against safety, quality, cost and programme targets.
  • Good commercial understanding of engineering projects, cost control, budget management, pre and post tender best practices.
Planning & Organising

Responsible for coordinating between multiple stakeholders the execution of engineering design field survey and enabling works. Coordination between engineering, EPM, operations, senior authorised person electrical, and the external contractor.

Maintain a 6m lookahead and 12m forecast estimate.
