Job summary

Balfour Beatty is seeking an Engineering Planner to support delivery of major transmission and substation projects across the UK from Leeds. You will develop detailed programmes and work with Project Managers to ensure on-time milestones.

Experience with Primavera P6 or Asta Powerproject, NEC3/NEC4 contracts, and strong analytical skills are required. This role offers a structured training path and opportunities for progression within a leading infrastructure contractor.

Qualifications

• Degree in Engineering, Construction, Project Management or related discipline.
• Experience as Planning Engineer, Planner or Senior Planner in infrastructure/energy/construction.
• Proficiency with planning software and analysis, able to produce robust programmes.

Responsibilities

• Develop, maintain, and monitor detailed project programmes using Primavera P6 and other planning tools.
• Produce fully resourced and logically linked programmes across all phases of project delivery.
• Support bid and tender submissions through the development of robust planning strategies and construction programmes.
• Identify critical path activities, project risks, and programme constraints; implement mitigation measures.
• Monitor progress and performance against milestones; provide forecasting and reporting.
• Produce planning reports, dashboards, KPIs, and management information for project teams and senior stakeholders.
• Support change management processes, delay analysis, and programme impact assessments.
• Work with Project Managers, Engineers, Commercial teams, Supply Chain partners, and Clients to meet objectives.
• Share knowledge, support junior planners, and help improve planning processes.

About the role

Balfour Beatty Power Transmission & Distribution is currently recruiting for an Engineering Planner to support the successful delivery of major transmission and substation projects across the UK. Working as part of a high-performing team, you will play a key role in planning and delivering critical energy infrastructure that supports the UK's transition to Net Zero.

What you'll be doing

As a Planning Engineer, you'll play a key role in ensuring the successful delivery of complex infrastructure projects from tender stage through to completion.

Key responsibilities include:

• Developing, maintaining, and monitoring detailed project programmes using Primavera P6 and other planning tools.
• Producing fully resourced and logically linked programmes across all phases of project delivery.
• Supporting bid and tender submissions through the development of robust planning strategies and construction programmes.
• Identifying critical path activities, project risks, and programme constraints, implementing mitigation measures where required.
• Monitoring progress and performance against programme milestones, providing accurate forecasting and reporting.
• Producing planning reports, dashboards, KPIs, and management information for project teams and senior stakeholders.
• Supporting change management processes, delay analysis, and programme impact assessments.
• Working closely with Project Managers, Engineers, Commercial teams, Supply Chain partners, and Clients to ensure project objectives are achieved.
• Sharing knowledge, supporting junior planners, and contributing to the continuous improvement of planning processes across the business.

Who we're looking for

We're interested in hearing from planners with experience gained within infrastructure, utilities, construction, rail, energy, or civil engineering environments.

You'll ideally have:

• Experience in a Planning Engineer, Planner, or Senior Planner position.
• Proficiency in Primavera P6 and/or Asta Powerproject.
• Experience working on major infrastructure, energy, utilities, civil engineering, or construction projects.
• Knowledge of NEC3 and NEC4 contracts.
• Experience undertaking critical path analysis, earned value management, risk analysis, and programme reporting.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to interpret complex project information.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
• A proactive and collaborative approach to working within multidisciplinary project teams.
• A degree, HNC/HND, or equivalent qualification in Engineering, Construction, Project Management, or a related discipline.
