First Military Recruitment Ltd is partnering with a client seeking an Engineering Manager in East Grinstead. You will lead the Engineering department across Generator PDI and Workshop teams, ensuring equipment readiness, safety, and regulatory compliance. Manage performance and develop engineers to meet depot objectives.

The role requires strong leadership, excellent organisational skills, and a commitment to quality and customer service. A full UK driving licence is essential.

Qualifications

• Proven experience in a similar role within equipment hire or power generation.
• Engineering background in plant and diesel engine maintenance, with generator knowledge desirable.
• Previous experience leading and managing a team of engineers.
• Strong understanding of compliance, health and safety and regulatory standards within an engineering environment.
• Excellent organisational and multitasking skills.
• Strong leadership and communication skills.
• Full UK driving licence.
• Strong focus on quality, safety and customer service.

Responsibilities

• Lead and oversee the daily activities of the Engineering department.
• Provide supervision, guidance and support to engineers and labourers.
• Ensure team objectives align with company goals and operational priorities.
• Promote a positive working environment focused on safety, collaboration and continuous improvement.
• Conduct performance reviews and identify training and development opportunities.
• Oversee Generator PDI processes, stock control and depot logistics.
• Attend customer site surveys, installations and breakdowns as required.
• Provide out-of-hours call-out support as part of the depot rota.
• Ensure generators and associated equipment are maintained in line with manufacturer specifications and company standards.
• Coordinate diagnostics, servicing and corrective repairs to ensure equipment is operational and available for hire.
• Monitor generator, cable and associated asset availability to maintain appropriate stock levels.
• Oversee stock replenishment and maintain accurate inventory records using the InspHire database.
• Ensure sufficient PDI-completed equipment is available for emergency and short-notice requirements.
• Ensure all equipment and working practices comply with relevant health and safety standards, company policies and regulatory requirements.
• Maintain a clean, organised and efficient working environment.
• Promote a culture of proactive risk management and safe working practices.
