Job summary

TrustFlight is seeking an Engineering Manager in London to lead a team of six to eight engineers, coaching individuals, upholding performance standards, and owning the team’s tooling, testing and infrastructure. This role emphasizes people leadership over purely technical direction.

Qualifications

• At least three years' experience as a dedicated people manager of software engineers, including senior engineers and leads.
• Software engineering background to contribute credibly in design reviews and architectural decisions; not the team's tech lead.
• Familiarity with infrastructure-as-code, CI/CD and automated testing (Terraform, Pulumi or equivalent), containerized deployment and a major cloud platform.
• Track record of raising and maintaining a quality bar across a team.
• Demonstrated improvement of how a team works, with evidence.
• Experience in performance management including improving or exiting underperformers.

Responsibilities

• Raise the performance bar with every hire and promotion; coaching as a core duty and upskilling as a standing remit.
• Manage performance, set explicit expectations, recognise strong work, address underperformance promptly.
• Unblock the team across tooling, infrastructure, testing and process; own the infrastructure-as-code estate.
• Own testing standards and release criteria; ensure consistent quality across the team.
• Architect cross-team developer tooling and consolidate the technology estate; establish automated guardrails.
• Work with technical leads to maintain an accurate picture of technical debt, quality and constraints.
• Lead the team's adoption of AI-assisted development and set governance for its use.
• Help establish consistent engineering practices across TrustFlight with other Engineering Managers.
